Wheatgrass?

Post by Spline Girl »

I would really like to start taking wheatgrass (for nutrients benefit), but a bit cautious. If you tried, could you please share your experience? Thank you!

I've always hated it, but I'm averse to freshly cut grass...and now, I think, it's wheat, which means gluten to me. So I personally wouldn't touch the stuff even if it had no detectable gluten.

As far as juicing, I really like it as a way to supplement nutrition without fiber. And I juice almost daily. There are so many amazing things to juice, namely: carrot, beet, apple, kale, ginger, spinach, cilantro, jalapeños, etc. that I feel like I'm not missing out, and I don't have to buy that special wheatgrass juicer.

Just my take on it,
Nancy

Wheatgrass is supposed to be gluten free but I usually advise clients to avoid it if they are gluten sensitive. Gluten contamination is highly likely. There are so many other choices, which Nancy mentioned, to supplement nutrition, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Thank you very much for the feedback!

I read that wheatgrass itself does not contain gluten - gluten is only in the developed grain. I got this powder: http://www.vitacost.com/amazing-grass-o ... wder-28-oz, which claims to be gluten free. I am thinking to try it slowly. I will share my experience.

I do juice carrots, beats, apples, ginger, etc. and I tolerate it well, especially in smaller doses, diluting juice with water. However, I was looking into wheatgrass because, first, some women take it, among other things, to improve egg quality (through strong antioxidant/anti-aging properties and lowering FSH levels) when they have diminished ovarian reserve (like I do) - as I read online. Being rather desperate, I am exploring every possibility that can. In addition, I am taking high dose of Vit D (3000 in prenatal plus 5000 separate) and from what I understand it requires magnesium (which I take in lotion) as well as Vit K and manganese to work properly. Wheatgrass contains a lot of Vit K - that is second reason I was looking into it.
