Wondering about your thoughts on this??

Though it seems easier to me to just not eat the damn stuff in the first place :)

SIGNIFICANCE/ IMPACT:

This study provides a basis for the selection of Lactobacillus strains for probiotic applications aimed to reduce epitope-containing gluten peptides before reaching the epithelium of the small intestine of celiac patients.

Hi Deb,

IMO, this sentence from the report is the most important:
Strains displayed different degradation rates and cleavage patterns that resulted in reduction but not complete removal of immunotoxic epitopes.
As we all know, partial reduction won't get the job done. And of course, there's the nagging problem of approximately 300 other reactive peptides in wheat, barley, and rye that this treatment does not even address.

I definitely agree with you, but apparently, for some people, not eating gluten is not an option. As I've pointed out many times before, some people will do almost anything to be able to eat gluten. So trying to use bacteria from pig guts to try to enhance digestion shouldn't come as a surprise, I suppose.

Thanks for the link to prove how medical researchers are working tirelessly to make sure that gullible patients will continue to have options available to them that will allow them to be able to damage their health while pretending to use a "legitimate" medical treatment.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I don't get it. If all you have to do to remain healthy is not eat gluten, why not just stop eating it. There are plenty of unavoidable hardships in this life. Going gluten free is not one of them.

Amen, Jean. My friends say that they "pity" me because I can't eat gluten! Don't pity me, for Pete's sake. Gluten is poison! I feel badly for them for eating it!
