Lymphoid follicles

Post by Tor »

The notes from my colonoscopy one year ago contains a note about lymphoid follicles in the ileum. I guess lymphoid follicles is normal in the ileum, but the note might imply an unusual amount. I was diagnosed with CC after the same colonoscopy.

BTW, my one year check up still showed indications of CC, but no longer diagnostic. This can be due to Entocort, bile acid binders or going gluten free for the last two months. Something seems to be working.

Can anybody comment on the lymphoid follicles? Tex?

Thank!

Hi Tor,

The role of lymphoid follicles in disease seems to be rather poorly understood by many pathologists, and generally not understood at all, by the rest of us. While certain patterns can be associated with certain diseases, usually they are of no pathological significance I would suspect that any type of IBD might result in elevated lymphoid activity (lymphoid follicular hyperplasia), but unless it results in lymphoid aggregates (which could suggest Crohn's, UC, or possibly other issues), and the numbers continue to increase, there's nothing to be concerned about.

Yes, the GF diet should reduce the inflammation level in your intestines, and that would bring the markers of CC/LC/MC down. Kids heal quickly, but for adults it usually takes at least 3 to 5 years (or more in some cases) for the intestines to completely heal.

It sounds as though your recovery is going well. Congratulations!

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
