Mistakenly thought I was in remission

Post by srocc20655 »

Hi everyone. Haven't posted in awhile. Had a bad flare back in December. Ate well after that. No gluten, rice or corn chex with almond milk, eggs for lunch and gluten free pasta for dinner. Was off the Pepto and felt great. Last week on a cruise I felt so good I had a big salad and then a whole ton of peanuts. Let's just say that did not work out well and my gut is killing me. And thought I had some bloody diarrhea. It sure looked bad. So seeing my Gastro tomorrow. I know from a biopsy that I have lymphocytic colitis. But I feel so awful I am convinced it must be something life threatening. Anyone else think like that?

Hi,

Sorry you're having those symptoms. It does take a while before most of us can handle salad again, but remember that it wouldn't be impossible to pick up a bug or a parasite on a cruise. Blood in the stool would indicate something other than LC. Your doctor may want to run some stool culture tests to rule out that possibility. And of course an infection of that type could certainly trigger a relapse of LC, also.

Please keep us posted.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Sorry you had the set back....

the salad, peanuts and a change of water would be enough to set me into a major flare - and as tex mentions there is the higher risk of infection type issues on a cruise
hope the GI does the right tests, you get the answers, and heal quickly

take care
