Scottish and/or Irish more prone to LC and MC

Post by Tcrios »

My doc has been very helpful. It is a relief since it took years to get a diagnosis.
He believes my Scottish and Irish heritage make me more prone to this disease.
I am curious - are any of you Scottish or Irish?

Interesting...I posted in the poll as well. I'm primarily English and Irish.

Both Scottish and Irish here!

I find it interesting that most countries have a grain as their staple food (wheat, corn, rice, etc.), but in Ireland it is the potato. Maybe because so many couldn't tolerate wheat?

 Ireland seems to be the center of gluten sensitivity.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Not Irish- half Hungarian & Polish. I think my micro colitis results from radiation after uterine cancer then another cancer in my sm. Intestine. Also had surgery for blockages in intestines last year. Diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis July 2014. Sandy
Trying to heal.

Irish.

The potato didn't reach Ireland (from S. American Andes) until the last couple of hundred years. It grew well in the soil and climate and quickly became an indispensable staple of the diet. Not sure what the diet was before that, but I would think fish, some grains such as oats/rye/barley, wild game, grass-fed sheep, etc.

Barley and rye, and to some extent, wheat, contain gluten, too.
Interesting...
