Checking In & confused

Post by nerdhume »

I have been on a restricted diet for about a year now. This has made my life tolerable with 1-3 BMs per day of varying consistency.
Just back from a week of cruising to mexico. I started on Uceris about a week before I left so I could enjoy the trip without worry about small amounts of intolerances in my food.
I ate mostly meats, fried potatoes and cheeses, stayed away from breads. Ate breaded seafood without problem and had at least 2 New York Cheesecake desserts every day. Had eggs, bacon, ham or steak for breakfast with hashbrowns.
Now for the confusing part....NORMANS every single day! Not a tummy rumble, no gas, no symptoms at all except GERD at night (room service at bedtime is not a good idea).
The last night of the trip I ate Molten Chocolate Cake with a scoop of ice cream. Last night DH and I went to Dairy Queen and got a dipped cone, no symptoms.
All my allergies stopped on the trip, no pollen at sea. As soon as I got back the sinus thing started again.
I stopped all my supplements on the trip because all meds needed to remain in their original bottle to avoid problems with customs, and I didn't want to take another suitcase for them. Think I will add those back one at a time to see if one of them is a problem.
I will stop the Uceris today and will see what happens.

I'm happy that you had a trip with no problems.

I wonder about the food; you say you had both ice cream and cheese, and yet Normans... Can it be thanks to the Uceris? Or the fact that you stopped all supplements?

If the sinus thing started again, one would think about pollen, or maybe you react to something in your home? Mold? Newly painted walls? Impregnated fabrics or materials...

It's a puzzle.

It will be exciting to hear how your tummy reacts without the Uceris.

My guess would be some sort of environmental allergy.

Same thing happened to me in Iceland (minus all of the cheesecake, so jealous!). I think that a lot of us react subtly to our environments as well as food. So new place could mean less inflammation. So that could translate to fewer MC symptoms. Or at least my theory.

I do think this would only work for a short period of time before diet would become a problem again.

There shouldn't be any confusion. The following quote explains why you were able to get away with such decadent ( ) behavior. You preempted any possible reaction by starting the budesonide a week before you fell off the wagon. By preloading your intestines with budesonide a week ahead of time, that slowed the rate of progression of any possible inflammation waaaaaaaaaay down.

I am really anxious to see how this goes. Day 1 off uceris. ..so far so good.
Tex, the uceris didn't work that well on the restricted diet.
I even went snorkeling, 2 hours away from a toilet!
I absolutely have my life back.

yesterday's menu:
3 cups coffee
breakfast: eggs scrambled in butter, sharp cheddar cheese, almond milk
lunch: 4 slices bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, potato chips, iced tea with honey
dinner: grilled ribeye, cabbage cooked with bacon grease. 2 glasses red wine
New York Cheesecake

No issues at all and saw norman again this morning.

Previously I was eliminating foods and still selecting low fat protein sources. Now I am trying to eat 65% fat 20% carbs 15% protein as recommended on the Paleo diet.

Seems to be working, will have to wait and see.

Theresa,

Your menu sounds yummy! Is the cheesecake gluten free?

Yes, but that was because you probably had a lot of damage that needed to heal at that point. Since then you've done a lot of healing, so at this point you have some latitude to play on.

Gluten free except the graham crackers. I am testing this one. If it's a problem I will just skip the crust next time.

Theresa,

Thanks for the recipe, looks good. Since Graham crackers have gluten, are you using a gluten free brand?

Thanks,
Donna

I must say that I'm jealous of your mindset Theresa! No matter how good I felt I could never ever knowingly ingest gluten in my lifetime. That being said, I wish I had the ability to let go a little more and find that balance. Enjoy it and I hope it lasts! Although I'm a bit worried (like a mother hen) and don't want you to take any steps back from your hard earned healing.

Interesting that your profile says you are sensitive to gluten, dairy and eggs, and you're eating all of them. IMO you're being very brave. I agree with Vanessa, and hope you don't take steps back from the healing you worked so hard to get.

Am also jealous. I doubt I would fare so well.
