Information overload

Post by LanBab »

i was recently diagnosed with C colitis. I decided against drugs as there are too many side effects. I have gone lactose free and am seeing some difference. Should I go gluten free at the same time or do them one at a time?

Hi,

Welcome to the discussion board. In order to achieve remission by diet changes we have to avoid all of our food sensitivities (at least all of the ones that cause our immune system to produce antibodies). Avoiding them one at a time is an exercise in frustration (been there, done that).

Virtually all of us are very sensitive to gluten (even though we test negative to the classic celiac blood tests), and most of us are also sensitive not only to lactose, but to casein, the primary protein in all dairy products. Almost as many of us are also sensitive to the main protein in soy, so we also have to avoid all products that contain any form of soy. Many of us also have additional food sensitivities, and eggs are the next likely suspect food.

Avoiding gluten and dairy products is a good start, and if you don't see any significant improvement within a month or so, it might be a good idea to also cut soy and maybe eggs out of your diet. If you want to cut to the chase, just avoid all of them, and after you are in remission, you can carefully test soy, eggs, and dairy (one at a time) back into your diet, to see if you react to them. With MC, gluten is almost a guaranteed food sensitivity.

Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
