Article from Johns Hopkins

Post by Adele13348 »

Wayne,

The other evening, my husband ran across this article from Johns Hopkins re: MC. I was impressed to see they recognized the pepto solution as well as advocating dietary changes. Maybe the tide is turning in gastroenterology. Hope you enjoy the article.

Hi Adele,

Thank you for the link. Actually, virtually all of the larger medical institutions recognize the Pepto treatment as an option. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see where the authors advocated dietary changes (other than the traditional warnings that virtually all GI specialists offer about coffee and lactose). Their only mention of the GF diet was that it gave inconclusive results — not exactly a ringing endorsement of treatment by diet changes.

Please don't misunderstand me, it's not a bad article, and it seems to be relatively comprehensive and technically correct — it's just somewhat typical of the old-school view of MC.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
