Vitamin b 12--sublingual vs. quick dissolve

Post by bevfromwa »

Recently I bought Nature's Bounty quick dissolve B-12, 2500 mcg. from Costco. (it was on sale) I'd been using a sublingual one before, and thought that was what this one is, but is quite different. You dissolve tablet under tongue for 30 seconds before swallowing, but it doesn't go away like the sublingual, just kind of becomes a grainy, sweet mess which I then swallow. Tex has said the advantage of sublingual is that it goes directly into the bloodstream, and I don't think this is doing that.

Comments? It's nice that Costco has such a liberal return policy if I'm told that it's not working right!

Thanks, Beverly

Beverly,

Is the B-12 in the form of methycobalamin or cyanocobalamin? Methylcobalamin is the active form (and will work sublingually). Cyanocobalamin is the inactive form, which has to be converted into an active form by the digestive system.

oh, ho! no wonder it was so cheap. I'll return it and get the one I'd been using from vitacost--Bio Nutrition 6000 b-12, which I cut I half. It has the fewest ingredients I could find, but has the preferred one you mentioned.

thanks so much, Tex

You're very welcome. Yes, the active form is much more expensive than the inactive form.
