Hello, All - I may have already posted this somewhere on the forum, but I can't locate it, so I apologize if this becomes a re-Post.
I Saw my Gastroenterologist today. He wanted to start me on Entocort because on 2 LIALDA pills a day, he doesn't feel I am showing the kind of progress he expected by now (approx. 2 months on the pill, so far). I suggested we wait until I get the Enterolab Test results back. He agreed. But, he upped my dosage of LIALDA in the meantime to 4 pills a day.
Between the basic bland rice and boiled chicken diet and the 2 pills a day, "C" has become more the issue lately than "D". But if I try to relieve the C with a slice or 2 of baked apple or a few raisins, I get the "Semi-D" back with it. Hmmm...
QUESTION: Will 4 pills a day heal me more quickly or just give me greater problem with C?
Thank You,
TREESE

That's difficult to guess, but mesalamine (the active ingredient in Lialda) is usually not as constipating as budesonide.Treese wrote:QUESTION: Will 4 pills a day heal me more quickly or just give me greater problem with C?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
My son is taking 2 a day for his UC. He has been on it for almost a week now and njot much of a change yet. Coolege classes start on Wednesday and as a student his main mode of transportation will be walking or biking. Concerned about the what-ifs of not having a bathroom nearby.
May I ask how long before you noticed some sort of improvement?

LIALDA Time Frame of Effectiveness
Hello, DEB - It has been close to 2 months now that I have been on LIALDA at the 2 pills a day dosage. At the start of taking it, whenever I had to go out, I took Pepto Bismol after my meal. It seemed to help my stomach not rumble into a D episode for at least a few hours. I understand Imodium is even more effective than the Pepto and comes in pill form, so it can be carried on one's person and taken safely, as needed, up to its prescribed amounts, without adverse reactions.
LIALDA takes time to get working in a Noticeable way, but it IS working, though he may not feel it working too quickly.
I also did a lot of white rice back then to help bind me a bit. Recently, I bought a small sandwich-sized travel bag to carry my food in, so I wouldn't have to shop for unhealthy foods while I was out and found myself hungry. The bag can actually go in the freezer for 12 hours and will keep your foods frozen without needing those ice cooler packs. It's called PACKIT Freezable Sandwich Cooler Bags and Amazon.com sells it for $12.00. It's small and has a carry handle for his bike handlebar or to hang on his belt. They even sell belt-loop bottle carriers if he wants to carry a bottle of water but needs his hands free.
Hope this helps, Deb!

Thanks Treese,
The immodium hasn't done much to help. He's only been on it for a week so we just need to give it a little more time. I think I am more impatient than he is!
I will let him know about the travel bag. Luckily his apartment is next to campus but I knowcI always pack safe foods whenever I'm out and about because getting caught hungry with nothing to eat is tough.
