Apples

Post by Marcia K »

Soooo, I've been eating one small, peeled apple per day for quite some time. I have not had any issues. Two nights ago I took an apple along to a field hockey game. After I ate it my ear would not stop itching. I thought a bug bit me. I didn't think it was the apple, but I wasn't sure. Today after I ate an apple my earlobe turned red...sigh. So now I guess I'm giving up my daily apple. I'm wondering if it's a different type of apple than I have been buying. I guess I'll try one more time to see what happens. Does anyone else have trouble with apples?

Marcia,

I do not have a sensitivity to apples, but if you google apple allergy there is some good information, as there can be several types of apple allergens. Also, your reaction could be dose depended, a small piece may not cause you to react, but a whole apple might be too much.
I worked with someone who had an oral sensitivity to different types of apples, some she could eat and some would cause her throat to itch and get tight.

Thanks, Donna. That's what I'm wondering...I think I bought a different type when I was at Wal-Mart. I normally buy Gala at my grocery store and never had an issue.
