Sensitization From Cosmetics!

Post by Chemgirl »

So I have been having a problem for months. My lips were very cracked with angular cheilitis and peeling. It looked like I had a chemical burn.

Originally I thought it was just dryness so I reached for my trusty gluten free, all natural lip balm. As the condition progressed I used antibacterial ointment, looked for vitamin deficiencies, and tried antifungal cream. Nothing helped and if anything I was getting worse.

Finally I decided to stop using my lip balm (I'm a slow learner) and the condition cleared up within days.

Interestingly, when I offered my unused stash to my sister and she said no thanks, apparently it makes her skin peel off!!!

So lesson learned. I will rotate products to try and avoid new sensitivities.

Ive been paranoid about lipsticks or chapsticks lately myself. Since this my lips are dried out from not using anything. Guess I need to splurge and find a safe one!

Glad you figured it out.

Do you have a soy sensitivity? I've found that many, many lip balms (especially the GF ones) contain soy. Maybe that was the culprit? Glad you figured it out!
