Hi!
I've been on the elimination diet for about five weeks and have been feeling better than I have in months, no D in several weeks and sleep is much, much improved with magnesium, Vitamin D and B12. I feel more "myself" than since this started last June, and my knee pain has disappeared too. BUT, I haven't ever actually gone back to Normans. Inflammation is still an issue, and since I"m early in the diet I figured it would just take time. But now I'm having C. No gut pain, gurgling, even discomfort yet. Just nothing for three days so far. The same thing last week, several days in a row.
I've been eating turkey, some chicken, steak a few times, pork, rice, bone broth, sometimes a cup of black tea and pureed cauliflower. The last several days I've had half an avocado since in the past in made my stool soft. It was delicious.
Anyway, before things get out of hand, what's the gentlest thing to try? Magnesium supplement like Mag Ox? I've been taking elemental magnesium, 400 mg a day.
Thank you so much to all of you, this board is the ONLY thing that has provided any relief. I am very grateful for the continued information.

Hello Adele..........
I have exactly the same history as yourself, perhaps been on the elimination diet 90days now but still not achieving Normans daily. I'm increasing my fibre intake but looking forward to any suggestions you attract here.

Hi Adele,
It's good to see that you've had so much improvement. If you are taking budesonide, it's time to lower your dose. But if I recall correctly, you are treating yourself by diet changes only, so you are probably correct that it's time to add some fiber back into your diet. Some members have found that psyllium can be helpful in that situation. Before my symptoms began, I ate a lot of popcorn to reduce constipation problems.
In addition to fiber, more animal fats, olive oil, or coconut oil may be helpful.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Adele,
great news that you are seeing those improvements! woo hoo!
some suggestions to help with the constipation, (and not go back to D)
- increase oil intake, either animal fat, coconut oil, rice bran oil etc
- increase water intake
- gentle small amounts of fibre, a peeled apple eaten slowly, chewed well
or maybe a peeled cucumber,
- importantly dont rush into new ingredients, stick with your known safe food groups
- dont rush into addtional fibre, small amounts at a time.
Changes like this can take 24-48 hours to work, have small amount each day for a few days and after 3-4 days if there is no improvement increase slightly again,
hope this helps
