Merry Christmas everyone.
I had my 2nd doctor appointment since my diagnosis. The doctor was very happy about all the help you have given me and said the diet was great. Thank you all for your support. It is not always easy but I am working on it and my husband is very supportive, always asking if I can eat this or that before we venture out (or he makes a meal in) to a meal.
I did however receive another diagnosis. I was told I have Barrett's Esophagus. Because in a small number of cases this could lead to cancer I have to start a regiment of upper GI's to make sure what is going on. We are going to wait a year from my initial test, which was in October. I can not have anything that is citrus, nothing spicy and no lactose. I am not suppose to have either coffee or tea but that is problem for me. I gave up drinking soda of any kind about 8 months ago and went to 1 cup of coffee in the morning and ice tea during the day. I also like seltzer water but am not sure of it because of the carbonation. I will have to work on that.
I had D again earlier this week but only for a day, thank heavens. I am using Pepto and so far so good. It also settles my stomach when I eat something that my Esophagus or stomach doesn't really like.
I told the doctor I was committed to my diet and regiment to the best of my ability until my next upper GI. My daughter said by that time a lot of it will be a habit and it shouldn't be quiet so hard.
If any one has any info on Barrett's Esophagus please pass it along.
Ruth

that is a nice xmas present to have a positive visit with the doctor!
the first 12 months was the hardest - as time goes on and the diet, routine, lifestyle do become habit/the norm...
(life with minimal symptoms is worth it!)

Shirley is not as active on the board - you might be able to PM her or Email her to discuss what she did[/i]

Hi Ruth,
Good for your doctor for being much better informed about treating MC than most of her or his colleagues. Most GI specialists still do not realize that diet changes can be used to effectively treat MC.
Most of us here cannot tolerate citric acid, or spicy foods, or any dairy products, anyway, especially while we are recovering, so virtually all of us are in the same boat with those restrictions.
It sounds as though you are off to a good start with your treatment. Thank you for the update, and I hope your progress continues.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
