Cleaning out the pantry

Post by T »

Every winter I clean out the pantry and pitch anything outdated and reorganize for my DW.
Last winter it never happened no energy with this MC so now I decided to have my shelf my food I decided it would be less stress looking at what I can eat not what I cannot.
Looks great so far now when we make our shopping list we will only need to take A quick look at my shelf.
I have far more food in the pantry than I realized, fantastic this will put A smile on my face every time I go to the pantry.

I should say it does help the feeling to look at a pantry and see what we Can have instead of Cannot  I'm slowly rotating out things and working on such a shelf myself too.

Thank you Erica! I did add hemp milk and a vegan protein shake, so yay for me. I keep both of those in the refrig. What do you guys do for snacks,? I am so tired of rice cakes & honey and Enjoy life cookies, just curious.

Martha,
My "snacks" aren't normal, lol. I have some hot tamale candies or a few pieces of some Enjoy Dark chocolate. I have a great gluten free Vegan bakery that is near and I pick up some cinnamon raisin bread from them which toasts up real nice. I also eat corn tortilla chips baked with sea salt. Of course these things I have introduced over the last 3-4 months I took it slow. I also found Nesquik Syrup has some citric acid and made with cocoa powder an sugar pretty simple ingredients so I use it in my coffee or cashew milk for a different spin on my drinks.

I'm always keeping my eye out for simple safe alternatives.

Oh that nesquick sounds good! Probably has corn syrup though. I will check. My bakery is backed up and out of bread until mid Feb. I made some pancakes yesterday, but added flaxseed and am not sure if it didn't agree with me or histamines from a piece of chicken. Going to retry pancakes in a couple of days after I recover.

I'm avoiding antihistamines as I'm still having reflux issues. It's not bad, but I don't want it to get worse. I think my stomach is not producing enough acid due to my diet or lack in vitamins. So I'm really having to watch my meat very carefully.

Thank you Erica!!

Martha,

Ground flax seed is an old home remedy for constipation. I have no idea how much it takes, though.

Can you eat bananas and cashew butter (or almond butter)? My favorite mid-morning snack is a frozen banana with cashew butter slathered on top.

Peel the bananas just as they barely become ripe though, because after that the histamine levels increase significantly with each passing day. Immediately freeze them in ziploc bags. When I get one out I let it sit for maybe 4 or 5 minutes to allow it to barely begin to thaw, but you may prefer them straight out of the freezer (especially in the summertime).

It might be best to wait until you have your histamine issues under control before trying this though because if you happen to wait a day (or maybe half-a-day) too long before peeling and freezing the bananas they may contain enough histamine to be a problem.

If you can tolerate fresh apples, crisp apple slices with nut butters slathered on also make a great snack.

Thanks Tex, I worry about bananas. But will definitely try the apples without the peeling. I haven't eaten them in awhile because I thought it may be too fibrous. I could try just a few. I need to get new almond butter, I think my husband contaminated my nut butter with soy.

I used 1 tbs of flaxseed (it called for 2), but it made 12 pancakes. I was so hoping it wouldn't bother me, trying to get some additional vitamins in me.

That shouldn't have been too much flax seed, but I'm just guessing. I use flax seed oil (in 1,200 mg capsules) as a supplement. The laxative in flax seed is in the hulls, not the oil. Of course if we eat too much oil of any kind it can act as a laxative of sorts, because of it's lubricating qualities. I also take a 1,200 mg fish oil capsule.

Hi Martha,

My snacks are made of dadels, seeds and nuts. If you can eat dadels, you can vary. Just put them in a kitchen machine and turn until they are a ball. Then mix with nuts or seeds. Make them flat in a form and put in the fridge. Than cut them into bars. I always have them with me, so I have something when I get hungry.

I had to look up the word "dadels". The English translation is "dates", not that you are required to use the English word. It is good for us English speakers to have to adjust to other languages. Assuming everyone should use English is a form of arrogance.

Erica

Since my NP would not refill my anxiety meds last fall and told me I would have to see A psychiatrist for my meds I decided to.
So I have A councler in which I have seen twice and A psychiatrist in which I finally see on Thurs (its been A two and A half month wait)
I have realized that I can change some of the negative things in my life into A positive and the pantry is now A positive.
