A little worried...
Hey Guys!
Been lurking around here and there to check in on everybody, nothing good to add to any topics so have been laying low.
I recently am in a massive flare. It's been five days of urgent WD just like when I was diagnosed with CC a couple years ago. I'm just not sure of the cause since I've added nothing new and it has just come back with a vengeance. It is amazing how quickly my mind goes back to that dark place when the WD persisted for months. I'm sorry for the belly achin' I'm just really scared. I know I'm not sleeping all that well trying to get back my normal rhythm after coming off of Clonazepam. Interestingly my bowels seemed to get a lot better as I was coming off of the med, but now that I've been off for 3 months they are at their worst. I wonder if this is to blame since we know there are so many receptors in the gut and those medications can do a real doozy until you can normalize. I know I still struggle with chemical anxiety and coritsol surges at the most inopportune times. Any ideas or pep talks would be much appreciated. Flares can happen out of the blue sometimes for a couple of weeks right? Took Immodium to no avail and will stop oral mag until under control. Next step is to ask doc for cholestyramine.

Vanessa,
Is there any chance that your diet may have become cross-contaminated with gluten? It could have happened long ago but the amount is so minuscule that it took a long time to cause a reaction.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Tex,
It could be. I had my mother help me make some safe meals for work, in her kitchen. She doesn't own flour but does eat bread occasionally. Have had her do this before without problems and she is meticulous with prep and cleaning of pans...but I didn't make it so that sure is a possibility. Or stress from poor sleep is kicking in. Why it takes someone else to ask the obvious questions? Geez. I didn't realize that reactions can happen after a time lapse. Here's to hunkering down to basics and praying this doesn't last a real long time. Thank you for the reply. I forgot how miserable this condition can be!

Vanessa, have you added any vitamins? They were my problem every time. I don't think I will ever be able to take a pill of any form besides d3.....

Hey Martha,
I tried adding zinc and biotin a while back, for skin and other issues. But quickly realized that was a no go. Not full on flare just things getting softer. I eat the same things but am I allergic to one of those things now? Hard to say. Today was better so maybe things are on the up swing...

Oh good! That stinks that things just pop up out of the blue. So sad that we can't take any vitamins plus can't eat them either .

Just following your post Vanessa....I sure hope your body gives you some signs so you can feel better!
That reoccurring glutened thing kinda bothers me, makes me wonder if half my aches are from that because although there is flour in the house it doesn't get touched much at all, but the husband has his own loaves of breads so crumbs could be my nemesis and that is why I have my ups and downs and my hit and miss body aches. Dang

Erica,
Friends with a child who has multiple intolerances, have "divided" their kitchen into two zones. All utensils and counters are totally separated, including cabinets, and of course foods.
I thought that was a bit exaggerated at first, but I witnessed the dramatic reaction of the little girl of 8 years after we had used the wrong zone for making food to her, and I was convinced that the system was wise.
When my children grew up we had a boy next door who got anafylactic shocks even from the vapor from the saucepan, where fish was being prepared.
Digression: When I came to think of these children while typing, both have Finnish ancestors (like 100-200 years back...). It's a fact that the Finns have fewer gene variants, or alleles, to play with.

Interesting......seems my flare is sticking around. No flour at all in my house. Only thing I can conclude is stress level from poor sleep and hormonal disruption. I really feel that coming off of the medication has greatly disrupted multiple systems. I think serotonin and MU receptors in my gut are trying to find balance.....this could take awhile. Thanks for the well wishes Erica! It's tough when you can't figure something out. If I knew it was out of my control, then I could just relax into it more and accept what is....
Vanessa
Thanks Lilja,
Yes....having most of my genes come from Western European, I have no doubt I probably should pay more attention to the distribution within my kitchen. Progress not Perfection...right
I'll get this licked eventually....I upped my topical magnesium just because of this conversation!
Vanessa,
I think our flares can hang around sometimes because we get a little anxious due to them...it really does have a "crappy" affect on us literally! I hope something takes your mind off of it for a while, and that it helps
Hugs

hang in there....
the reaction of your body in coming off the Clonazepam, is a bit of an indicator that there are still some deficiencies in your body...
any changes need to be real slow / very gradual
hope things have kept improving..

Thank you Gabes,
I go see a nurse practitioner on the 29th who specializes in auto immunity, hormones, etc. Just want her to rule out H. Pylori, peri menopause, or anything else major. She also prescribes LDN if that would be an option. I'm sure I'll have questions for everyone after testing is done...

A thought struck me. At one time I can remember talking about how I just had been off of something long enough for my body to start looking for another excuse to react.
This seems like the perfect excuse for your body to start acting up if it can't find anything else to react to. Baby your self with as much kindness as you can muster, it appears to be confused and looking for any excuse it can to react to probably your safe things you have been doing all along. Like I've said before, our bodies sure are fickle things, and can react at the drop of a dime.
Do the usual things talked about on this forum....the VitD3 and lots of Magnesium, mental relaxation, and sticking to safe foods regardless if your body thinks they are foreign, unless you are truly changing and there is now something that should be a sometimes food instead of an every day food. Ponder what one thing you can change, try it, and move to something else.
I wish you speed healing of this flare
Hugs
