Newbie - What supplements should I take
I am newly diagnosed - following the food plan outlined in The book and have not yet had stool testing or any blood work done. I am taking oral vitamin d drops - vegan formula and using magnesium oil at night on my legs. I am still having lots of symptoms and D. During this time should I be taking anything else?
Best, Michelle
Hi Michelle,
Unless you know for a fact that you are significantly deficient in some other vitamin or mineral, it's almost always best to use only vitamin D and magnesium, especially during the recovery period, because the more supplements we take, the greater the risk that we may introduce a problem that could prevent us from reaching remission. After you have been in remission for a while then you can determine whether you may need any other supplements, but normally (for most of us) additional supplements are not necessary.
It can take a while for the inflammation to settle down enough that we begin to see results from the diet changes, but it sounds as though you are on the right track, and as long as you are on the right track you will reach your goal. Some of us see results from diet changes relatively quickly, while for many of us it takes much longer, probably because we either have more intestinal damage, or we have more severe sensitivities.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
