Collagenous Gastritis
Collagenous Gastritis
My husband received the diagnosis of collagenous gastritis in the past week. I'm a RN so I am doing research fast and furiously, but I was so happy to find this board. However, is this board only for microscopic colitis--or is it related?
Hi Oz,
Welcome to our Internet family. Most gastroenterologists don't realize this of course, because collagenous colitis was originally improperly described as a disease of only the colon (as you know, colitis refers to the colon only), but in fact collagenous/lymphocytic/microscopic colitis can (and often does) affect any organ in the digestive system, from lips to anus, and we have accumulated over 10 years worth of epidemiological data here to verify that observation.
Therefore, IMO collagenous gastritis is basically collagenous colitis that presents in the stomach rather than the colon. Closer examination however, plus additional biopsy samples will probably verify that your husband also has the diagnostic markers of either LC or CC in either his small intestine or his colon or both, as many others here do.
We are students of all forms of the disease here, so you are very welcome to join us. Just please be aware that his doctors will surely deny that what I have written above is even possible, let alone likely.
Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
