Diabetes and LC

I don't even know where to start. I've been diabetic for 12 years, I am on oral meds to maintain and I don't eat sugar! My diabetic number are good and have been for years. I've been diagnosed with LC for 1&1/2 yrs. and I'm getting a diet handle on this.
I know they are connected. But how I don't know. I'm trying to treat both issues with new zeal as I've determined this is my year to get healthy.
So I've got the vit. D Thing under control. I take 13,000 every day. That keeps me in mid normal range. Through this form I understand I need to start the magnesium. Going to do that tomorrow.
I've searched most of the form and haven't found a lot concerning both issues. Does anyone have any experience with both? Or anything else I should be aware of? Obviously I have a messed up gut!
Thanks
Ginny

the most active member that had diabetes and LC was/is Monique

here is a link to a discussion about her using LDN therapy and the discussions in this thread may answer some of your questions

Did you try the search function to find previous discussions?
go to the red heading 'Search the Archives of this Discussion Board' type in diabetes as the search word and I am certain you will find lots of previous discussions...

Ginny,

Monique has Type 1 diabetes, so the cause of her diabetes is different from yours. We have quite a few members here who have diabetes. I have a hunch that is because of the insulin/magnesium connection. Most people are magnesium deficient, and people who have an IBD are much more likely to be magnesium deficient. And to make it worse, corticosteroids and many other medications deplete magnesium. And some of us seem to need more magnesium because of our genetics. Have you ever read about the insulin/magnesium connection? Here's a link to an article by Dr. Sircus about it:

The Insulin Magnesium Story

Thanks so much for y'alls insight. I know the meds for diabetes also effects the bowels. Once again a catch 22. But I'm learning so much here, and now reading the book. It's great! I at least feel like I can find help now.

Y'all are right that this condition really does mess with your head. I think it is the embarrassment factor which adds tremendously to the isolation and hopelessness. The last thing I want to talk to people about is how my bowels are doing....😳😁

Thanks, Ginny

Ginny,

I was never diagnosed as diabetic but I knew I was headed in that direction. I follow a low carb diet, mostly meat, fish, low carb veggies and healthy fats (olive oil, coconut oil, ghee). I eat no grains, no fruits or starchy vegetables and no sugar or other sweeteners. It's in fact a low carb paleo diet. It works to keep my blood sugar normal and it works to control my MC. I don't eat gluten (or, as I said, any grain), dairy, soy or eggs either and I can't eat chicken. It is possible to design a way of eating that fits both the requirements of MC and the requirements of diabetes.

Thanks for the tips. I'm just now in the process of finding which foods can work for both. Although I don't think I'll ever be off meds, I would like to be on as minimal amount as possible. I'm sure it is a contributing factor to my LC.
