Importance of protein

Post by Gabes-Apg »

the topic of protein, sources of protein and how much is frequently discussed...
came across this presentation by Dr Leo Galland (he has just released a book about allergies, I listened to a podcast today about that book, late 19th Century no medical journal mentioned allergies, the issue of allergies/asthma only became a prevalent issue from 1960's onwards)

anyways, went to look at his website and articles and found this;

http://mdheal.org/articles/proteinnutri ... /frame.htm

he has some slides on how much protein we should consume, and quotes various studies etc
High meat diets increase zinc bioavailability in elderly women (Hunt et al, Am J Clin Nutr 1995; 62: 621-32) and iron and zinc utilization in young women, with no effect above 3 oz lean beef/d. (Johnson & Walker, J Am Diet Assoc 1992; 92: 1474-8).
If you want to listen to the podcast about the allergies - it was a good layperson explanation why allergy issues are on the increase.
