Vit D3 and Magnesium

Wayne Persky (aka Tex) has written a book about Vit D - Vitamin D and Autoimmune Disease - it is available via amazon



Magnesium:
- Most people have magnesium deficiency
- There are many reasons why magnesium deficiency occurs
- Fixing magnesium deficiency will resolve many health issues (or a chronic condition will be less impacting)

Magnesium Key Roles:
- Catalyzing most chemical reactions in the body
- Producing and transporting energy
- Synthesizing protein
- Transmitting nerve signals
- Intimately involved in muscle function

Daily Requirement
Daily requirement for Magnesium is 300-400mg ELEMENTAL** Magnesium per day.
This requirement can be higher for those with medical conditions, certain medication usage, excess of toxins etc.

When resolving a magnesium deficiency it can take at least 6 weeks of high dose (ie 600mg Elemental Magnesium per day or more) to resolve a deficiency. if the deficiency is moderate and the daily usage is high, it can take a few months to resolve deficiency.

ELEMENTAL** Magnesium
it is important to read the small print on magnesium products to check;
a) how many tablets or capsules are needed for that dosage, many products are two tablets for the dosage
and b) how much Elemental Magnesium you are getting.
some forms of magnesium may present as
Each tablet contains:
Magnesium amino acid chelate 500 mg
Equiv. elemental Magnesium 50 mg
Magnesium amino acid chelate 750 mg
Equiv. elemental Magnesium 150 mg

To minimise gut issues when using oral Magnesium, spread the dosage throughout the day.
There are many forms of magnesium. Information below shows the better absorbed forms (that are less likely to cause gut issues when taking oral forms) and are MC friendly with safe inactive ingredients;

Vitamin D3

the average person uses approximately 5,000 IU of vitamin D each day (according to the Vitamin D Council), so most of us need to take about that much (or more) in order to boost our vitamin D level enough to get it up to a safe level within a reasonable amount of time. The longer it takes to get our vitamin D level to a good place, the longer we are exposed to an increased risk of developing one or more AI diseases.

Further information on Magnesium

Testing for Magnesium deficiency
The conventional blood tests can tell you if the magnesium reserves in muscle cells of your body are so depleted that the blood can no longer recover any magnesium from them (so serum magnesium levels fall to below the "normal" range. But other than that, they are pretty much worthless, because the body will always pull magnesium from magnesium reserves in muscle cells in order to keep blood levels in the "normal" range (because magnesium is a vital electrolyte). So you will never know of a deficiency until your reserves are all gone. It's possible to order a "tissue test" for magnesium, and that should give accurate results, but I've never seen a doctor order that type of test. They always naively choose the cheap and easy blood test.

Hi Gabes,
Regarding magnesium, I have started the spray oil, it's 66mg per 4 sprays. So if I do 36 sprays a day I'd be at 594 mg elemental magnesium. If I do that can I stop the oral? I want which ever is easier on my stomach. What do you think?

HI Beccasue,
My two cents on your question is 'yes' if that is what you are most comfortable with. Another product you may find helpful that I am trying out is the Re-Mag (yes it is $30 a bottle) but I am finding it is absorbing quite well before it reaches the large intestine and I am pleasantly surprised at how much better my WD flare situation is responding to this ionic magnesium and I also put 12 sprays on every morning for an approx. 200mg.

Thank you, is this available online? Do you feel a little sleepy at first? I don't mind since I run anxious, but was wondering if this was why.

I haven't noticed the sleepiness unless I apply it closer to bedtime. It may be relaxing your body a bit better than expected, and even mind over matter can take place (which isn't a bad thing considering you are experiencing a grieving time period - which I am most sorry about).

I have noticed that over the course of this year my anxious moments aren't quite as bad as they used to be...I am thankful for that, it really was wearing me out, I can look back on it now and ask myself why I let myself get so wrapped up in fixing the world sometimes :grin:

The sleepy part can be a few things;

magnesium will help 'calm' for some people
it can also be your body absorbing it and using it - magnesium is key to clearing toxins/heavy metals from the body. (so yes you may notice extra BM activity)

IMO this is why Twitter, FB, and so many other social networks are so actively involved in voicing public opinion these days (in addition to the fact that way too many people seem to have way too much time on their hands. :lol:). — they're all feeding off the magnesium deficiency epidemic in the general population.

Tex- wow that does make sense. Social media can be so toxic in itself. Gabes- when can I expect the toxins to be flushed? I am traveling this weekend- yikes! I do all phalate, paraben free, organic shampoos, lotion, toothpaste, body wash etc and I have a shower filter. Will this lessen the detox at all? Should I just compensate with more fluids? I'm sorry I am asking question after question here. I'll pipe down soon :)

its hard to say - depends on how many toxins you have absorbed in your lifetime, how long you have had leaky gut, how long you have had nutrient deficiencies...

for some it is months
for others it is years....

toxins are way way more than body products-

what has your water supply been like your whole life
how many medications have you taken during your lifetime?
vaccinations (have metals etc)
dental health and have you had mercury fillings
have you ever lived in a polluted/industrial area
have you lived or worked in a place that has mold
how much anesthetic you have had in your life time
etc etc etc
these are all the 'lifestyle factors' with diet etc that can impact our genes for illness's to start...

Thanks Gabes! I've been blessed to live in a part of Southern California that has very clean air, near Temecula if you've ever heard of it. I've also been blessed to never have a cavity in my life! But I did have 4 epidurals with each baby. I've never taken much medications because everything including allergy pills, affect me bad and quick. I literally thought I was going to die one time from DayQuil! Is that common with Mc? I'm sure I will be detoxing for a while though. Thank you for this input.

being from Australia, I have only started learning about the different areas of USA since being part of this forum, and the friends i have made here...

that is fantastic that you have never had cavities, gluten free eating, Vit D3 and magnesium supplementation is a good way to protect yourself long term from future cavities (dental issues are common amongst MC'ers)

given what you have said above, you shouldnt have too much of a toxins overload, and you are early days of your elimination eating plan.
take it a day at a time

a good motto to remember, its about progress... not perfection
so long as each week is just a bit better than the one before - that is good progress

IMO gluten is the main cause of dental cavities/tooth decay. The problem did not exist before the neolithic period of history (when wheat was introduced into the human diet).

A good dentist (who understands celiac disease) can diagnose celiac disease just by examining a patient's teeth. It causes weak enamel.
