kind of to clarify

Post by brandy »

I saw Tex has inserted the Smile Amazon link below. If you make your purchases through smile.amazon.com as opposed to amazon.com you can specify a charity. Amazon will donate .5% of your purchase to your designated charity for all purchases made through the smile.amazon.com link. Amazon will not make donations through the regular amazon.com link.

The first time you purchase through the smile.amazon link you will be asked to specify a charity. I specified the Microscopic Colitis Foundation. Amazon will donate .5% of my purchase monies to our foundation as long as I utilize the smile.amazon link for future purchases (in lieu of the standard link.)

Since the Microscopic Foundation is our foundation I figure anything Amazon wants to donate to help with future research into our disease is a good thing.

Hopefully this clarifies the button below.

Brandy,

I suspected right off the bat that you were the one responsible for prompting AmazonSmile to send me a letter requesting that we register the foundation on their website. Before I received that letter I wasn't even aware of the existence of AmazonSmile. We are also now registered with the PayPal Giving Fund, which is a somewhat similar nonprofit set up to assist with fundraising for eligible nonprofits.

The banner is a bit large, but I tried downsizing the dimensions in the code and found that it won't display properly when I do that, so it has to be displayed as it is, or not at all.

If you hadn't prompted AmazonSmile to send that letter, we might have remained ignorant of their existence forever. Many thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Tex

Hi Tex,

Too funny. I was buying something from Amazon and a screen popped up about a donation. They had four charities selected....American Red Cross and some others or you could select your own. I typed in Microscopic Colitis Foundation and got a message that they would send you a letter.

Twenty and thirty year olds buy almost everything on line by the way. One of my friends is a part time mail carrier and delivers to a neighborhood of young people. Young people do not buy baby food or diapers or paper towels at stores anymore. That stuff is all bought on line now. He says he delivers a shocking amount of boxes to young households on a daily basis.

My college-age son buys from Amazon all of the time. I'll be sure he signs up. Thanks, Brandy!

Marcia,

The key is that one has to start every shopping spree at AmazonSmile (not at the regular Amazon site) in order to be offered the option for Amazon to donate to one's charity of choice.

Thanks,
Tex

Thanks, Tex. I will let him know and I will do that as well although he shops on Amazon quite a bit more than I do.

The nice thing about it is if you shop the Amazon ap by habit your shopping cart will carry over to the Amazon Smile site. It's easy to forget but at least a shopping trip is saved no matter which one you use.

Hi, Brandy. I was thinking of posting a reminder, too. When I ordered from Smile Amazon yesterday I saw that I supported the Foundation 26 times. That made me smile!

Marcia and Erica thanks for the support! I try to post something about it around every quarter when I think of it as we have so many new
members cycling through so that the new members can also check out the foundation. It looks like we get about 40 new people to the website
a month so about 500 new folks per year that check us out.
