Eye pain and pain in back, left side, just below ribs
I was diagnosed last week with MC after 9 weeks of diahhera. In addition to the common symptoms, I'm having periodic pain in my eye ( sharp, stabbing pain) and also tenderness and pain in my back, on my left side, just below my ribs. Is this common?
I've been taking raberozole for many years, Prevacid prior to that and now the dr switched me to pantoprozole along with Pepto bismol. I've stopped the Pepto bismol because it wasn't helping and I was getting severe migraines from the dye I think. I go for my follow up appointment with the Dr July 20 so have a bit of a wait. Immodium does help me quite a bit but I'm so tired.
I am now taking magnesium, vit d3 and b12 along with probiotics.
I started a gluten and dairy free diet.
Is there anything else I can do until I see the Dr.

Welcome to our group
(and sympathies for your Dx and having to find us)
I had eye issues a couple of years before my official MC dx.. It was not until I found this site and did some reading that various health issues in the years before my MC Dx finally started to make sense. those issues have not returned since I resolved deficiencies like Vit D3 and magnesium, and keep inflammation minimised via my eating plan and lifestyle changes etc.
many here have cramping pain in the intestines when there is excess inflammation. Prior to Dx and making eating plan changes, I would have crippling cramping pains.
so far as anything else you can do, check out our suggested eating plan, it helps to reduce inflammation and the meals are easier for the body to digest. (this should alleviate the pains) http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=79
hope this helps...

Hello. Welcome to our internet family. Every once in a while I get pain in my eye but it doesn't last long. If I get pain it's always on my left side, but not in my back. Check out the eating plan that Gabes recommended. I am in remission by diet alone after taking Pepto for 8 weeks. You've come to the right place for help on your journey to healing. This is a wonderful group of people.

Hi Lin,
Yes, I agree with Gabes and Marcia, eye inflammation problems such as uveitis (iritis) are somewhat common with IBDs, including MC. We can have pains almost anywhere in or on the body as a side effect of the disease.
But I'm afraid your main problem at the moment is the pantoprozole. Proton pump inhibitors are a very common cause of MC. IOW your MC is probably a result of taking those PPIs for years. And unfortunately, controlling the symptoms of MC is virtually impossible as long as a PPI is used, especially if PPIs were responsible for causing the MC in the first place. Your doctor should know that, but apparently she or he does not.
I hope that you will be able to find a way to wean off the PPI so that you can control your MC symptoms.
Again, welcome aboard and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi there............when I was diagnosed last summer and before I changed my diet, I had those side pains below the ribs all the time 24/7. I used to drive with my left hand on my side (I guess it just helped me feel better). Once I changed my diet and went gluten, dairy, and soy free, those pains went away and have not returned. Give it some time.

Hi, Lin. Stick with it and you'll be glad that you did! I was with a friend who gets migraine headaches last evening. She said that she stayed away from gluten for two days and felt much better but she's Italian and they eat a lot of pasta...I wanted to ask her if feeling well isn't worth giving up the pasta but I held my thoughts. She has to want to do it on her own.
