The Dreaded Cold!

Post by jlbattin »

Oh, I went and did it! I caught a cold. It's not as severe as I know it could be, but it's bad enough.

I got complacent. When I started the school year last year, I was a clean and germ freak. I sanitized everything on a regular basis, used my oil diffuser every single day and cleaned my hands until they were raw. I got a little lazy this year, and I paid the ultimate price for it. I've had students in my room for the past couple of weeks sitting around my table reading with snotty noses..............and I KNEW BETTER!

So, back to my regular germaphobe person I go.............

Anyway, took a Benadryl last night and Allegra this morning. Had to use a little Afrin to help me knock out some of the congestion last night so I could sleep as my nose was running like a faucet. I slept pretty good.

Am feeling better today but really tired. I'm sure our bodies work twice as hard when we get something like this on top of our regular MC.

Anyway else have any tips on how to handle the dreaded cold? I'm staying on my regular eating and drinking mostly water. Probably should up my D3 and magnesium at this point as it's probably really getting depleted?

Thanks for your help/tips/advice as always!
Jari

take one day of high dose Vit D3 and extra zinc
both will help the immune system, and help clear inflammation

I have been encouraging family members to use the high dose Vit D3 (ie 5000-10000iu for people who dont take it daily like us MC'ers) and it has worked..

We are just finishing winter here in Aus and the flu season was bad, people with symptoms for weeks/months. When i first got symptoms I did high dose Vit D3 and zinc, rested and got over it within 5 days.

I will second the high VitD and the Zinc...I am taking 10,000 D and I used to take 50mg zinc when cold season was at its highest around me. I have backed off on the Zinc to 50mg once a week at the moment because my blood tests said I was sufficient enough on the high end so will probably on do the higher intake during higher virus times.

I also found a chewable vitC berry flavor by Vitacost 500 mg and it is helping too. I am feeling so much better with the cholestyramine and minimal supplement routine now....

Hope you get to feeling better soon Jari

hope you get better quickly Jari! Maybe drink some bone broth too....it always made me feel better with a cold. I always boil salt water and peppermint oil then put my head over it and breathe in mutiple times a day to relieve congestion.

Those of us that work with children become fomites at the end of the day. I am entering week #4 with a cough and I feel like I could easily become Rip Van Winkle. I take a lot of VD and today I'm adding Zinc for future germ warfare.

May we all get through this coming flu season relatively unscathed
