How I Found My Minimum Maintenance Dose for Magnesium

Post by tex »

I thought that since the RDA for magnesium (for men) is 400 mg, that should be sufficient, after I had rebuilt my reserves a bit. After all, the government spent no telling how many millions of taxpayer dollars figuring out the correct RDA for everyone. Who am I to dispute such brilliant scientists.

So after well over a year of taking higher doses and finally settling on 500 mg, I reduced my daily dose to 400 mg. Actually I take a multivitamin that contains 80 mg of magnesium oxide, but I doubt that I absorb more than 3 or 4 mg of that, so I completely ignore it.

Anyway, I lasted for only a few weeks before I began to wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning with those old familiar breathing problems that plagued me for over 10 years before I increased my magnesium supplementation rate last year. And of course I was unable to get back to sleep for several hours. I endured 2 nights of that to make sure that it wasn't just a fluke and then I upped my dose to 500 mg of magnesium again.

No more symptoms. So I reckon that 500 mg is the minimum amount of magnesium that I can get by on.

Mine is 500 mg too but I am taking calcium every other day. So I try to do 1:1 so I have to add more on those days. We are experiments. Couldn't get Remag, have old dental fillings. So I use tablets, oil and lotion.
Good going Tex. :bear:

Thank you for this post Tex. I finally figured out to stay around 450 mg and up it to 600 mg for 3 days before ovulation and period. That's keeping the heart palps at bay and minimizing GI distress. It's been awefully humid here in Iowa, so on days I sweat I'll throw on some oil.....

Hi,

After I changed my magnesium intake habits, I no longer wake up at 3 a.m.

1) I increased my fluid magnesium to 1 full cork (the cork of the magnesium bottle) in a glass of water
2) I started taking it minutes before going to bed

1 cork is approx 1,5 teaspoons, which is approx 7.39338239 ml.
However, how many milligrams is 7.39338239 ml ?

Is my calculation correct? Can fluid be converted to solid mass like this?

The conversion and the desimals confuse me...

you will need to check the label of the product you are taking to find out how many mg is in each measure of liquid of the product.

Hi Lilja,

If you are still using ReMag then 1.5 teaspoons is equal to 450 mg of elemental magnesium. I'm glad its working well for you. Yes, Sleep!

Thank you Gabes,

Oh, I could have turned the bottle and found out myself... ha ha!

It says:
Serving size 1/2 capful or 1/2 teaspoon.
Amount per serving: Magnesium Elemental 150 mg.

Vanessa,
This works so much better than the tablets, so I'm glad you proposed it to us.

Question for Janie.....this is the first I heard about old fillings re: Remag. I too have old (really old) fillings. How does that relate to Remag usage? Does topical use have the same relation? Is this why I didn't like Remag when I tried it for 4 days?

Thanks for bringing this up.

Laura,

I'm not Janie but, if you drink it, it is fine. It's just not suggested to hold in the mouth with mercury fillings because magnesium detoxes heavy metals such as mercury. So, to be on the uber safe side, they tell you not to hold it in your mouth for a period of time IN CASE the mercury from your fillings could release into your blood stream. I've never heard of anyone on the radio show calling in with any problems from this nor my parents who both have a mouth full of metal. I'm not sure what kind of reactions Janie was having. I know Gabes uses a similar product and has had a lot of dental work. Maybe our toxins expert will help put minds at ease. I know everyone is probably sick of me answering questions about this product, but I studied it at length before I tried it. My sole intention is to help everyone feel better if possible as I am so grateful for everyone on this forum... :gathering:

Lilja,

If I recall correctly from my school days (engineering school), pure water is at it's maximum density at 4 degrees C (39.2 degrees F), and at that temperature water has a density of 1g/ml. So 1 ml of water would weigh 1g. For everything else, the weight of 1 ml would depend on it's density relative to water.

Thank you, Tex.
I now understand that you are a mathematician and an engineer at heart, since you mention water and density. I would love to understand it, but I don't  I'm just happy that someone can offer me the facit. (Maybe "facit" is not the proper word in English, but I hope you understand).

I was using it for about 3 weeks when my teeth started hurting where I had the fillings. Don't know why but once I stopped so did the hurting. Didn't want any more problems. I am fine with what I am doing.

Thank you Vanessa and Janie for your input. I find that I will continue to pursue the perfect magnesium fix for me. I'm currently using oil spray and and have some Doctor's Best on standby to try real soon. Still looking for that balance!

Thanks again,

With my combo of health issues, i have needed at least 600mg per day, especially while I am trying to clear toxic heavy metals.

Interesting about the liquid / amalgam fillings situation.

I'm finding that around 500mg is my sweet spot too
