Hi there,
Have you checked out the 'guidelines for recovery' section?? In this we provide diet/eating plan suggestions.
Long story short, gluten free breads tend to have a combo of flour ingredients, if you happen to react to one of these ingredients then it will cause inflammation....
in the early part of MC healing, we encourage people to avoid processed flours type items as much as possible. Basing your eating plan on safe proteins and small amount of safe veges is best way to reduce inflammation and optimise healing....
Down the track of the healing journey you can try bread products and some members will chime in with their suggestions...
Happy healing..

I don't eat bread myself, but if you can't live without it (as you transition to a modified diet) some members here find that brands such as Canyon Bakehouse, Udi's, and Rudi's offer some of the best GF breads. Be aware though, as Gabes has pointed out, that most GF breads contain eggs, some contain dairy ingredients, and many of us react to some of the alternative flours used in various GF flour blends.

Most GF breads are better toasted. I don't eat much GF bread but historically I've eaten Udi's. I've recently tried Rudis. I think I prefer Rudis. Rudis is more "doughy", denser and consistency is more like artisanal bread. Udis is "lighter" and less dense. Canyon gets really good reviews but I've never tried it.
Gabes,
Yes, I've read the intro on recovery and stage one diet. It's just so daunting and frightening because I've already lost 20 plus pounds since July and I just don't see how I'll regain my strength and stamina on rice and turkey. And the idea of cooking some the recipes I've seen is beyond me. I'm worried about getting enough calories. I'm already drinking 2 to 3 ensure drinks a day to get calories in and it looks like they will have to go. So frustrated to say the least.

I made a coconut bread yesterday. If you can tolerate coconut flour. It did require 6 eggs and I can't tolerate chicken eggs, so I use duck eggs. Its a very simple recipe with few ingredients. You could start there. Its not exceptional, but it's bread. I toast it and put honey and cashew butter on it. There is also a pumpkin bread recipe with almond flour that doesn't require eggs. Its in the recipe section at the top. Very easy to make.

I just reread my post and I don't mean to come across as so whiny. This whole thing has just thrown me for a loop. I've had weeks of anxiety and depression scared to death before my MC diagnosis and now l've got to get off PPI meds I've relied on to control severe gerd and change my diet completely. I know that so many have it so much worse than I do and I'm blessed to found this group. I'm just feeling very frustrated. But thanks for the wise advice and help.

Hi, K. You're not whiny. We have all been where you are. When I was first diagnosed I didn't know how I would live without bread because a typical lunch for me was a turkey sandwich. I did try Udi's after I was on the road to healing but now I don't really eat bread at all. I found that baked sweet potatoes and bananas helped me to keep weight on. Some can't tolerate bananas so you have to move slowly as you test foods once your symptoms are under control. Don't hesitate to ask questions. This is the best resource you will find to help you. I recently hit my 3 year mark with LC and I still ask questions. Martha, that's great that you can use duck eggs. I can't find any in my area.

No applologies here. We all understand totally how you feel! We have all been where you are at. I'm back where you are now. I am adjusting my diet again due to another issue. It's all part of the healing process. You will be in my thoughts and prayers!!
Marcia,
If I lived closer I'd drive some to you. They have been a blessing! I did a lot of posting on Facebook to find them.

I hear you. I had the same concerns back when I was recovering, and I made the same mistakes. My job required a lot of hard physical labor, so I thought I needed calories. But the problem is that as you have discovered, those "energy drinks" are loaded with ingredients that cause us to react.kbrents1 wrote:I'm worried about getting enough calories. And we can eat all the calories, or nutrients, or whatever we crave, but as long as our gut is inflamed, most of those calories and nutrients will never be absorbed — they go straight into the toilet. That's why some of us lose so much weight — we can't absorb the nutrients in our food. Not every MC/LC/CC patient loses weight while reacting, but for those of us who do (including me) we have to stop generating new inflammation with ever meal in order to reverse the weight loss problem.
And that's why the number 1 item on our recover agenda should be to stop the inflammation. Because until we manage to stop the inflammation from being regenerated every time we eat, we're going to continue to lose weight, regardless of what we eat. After we reach remission, and our gut begins to heal, our digestion will improve significantly and we will begin to absorb nutrients much more efficiently, allowing us to regain the weight we have lost.

Thanks, Martha. There is a Farmer's Market not too far from me and I'm thinking if duck eggs aren't sold there one of the vendors might be able to point me in the right direction. Years go my dad's friend had ducks... boy I wish he was still around!

kelly, I'm in chattanooga, well soddy daisy to be exact...during the start of my diet, I lost so much weight. My kids asked me why I was so wrinkled like my 90 year old grandmother (I'm 42). You will gain it back, but it is scary.
Marcia, I found a friend of a church friend. Luckily she lives 15 minutes from my house. I searched for months.
