4 steps forward ....3 backward....
I've been on 9 Pepto Bismol tablets daily for almost 3 weeks now. After 2 weeks, I began to see some encouraging signs of healing ...the terrible cramping began to diminish, night time episodes gradually stopped, and Hope began to grow. I was following the eating guidelines here and that was working as well.
My doc was encouraged but concerned about no veggies so she suggested I try some cold pressed juices..... one brand included fruit juice with the veggies. My daughter brought me some ground turkey & bison...I hesitated since I need to avoid beef but decided to use it since my cupboard was bare... slowly over the past 4 days the stool became looser, more frequent, occasionally occurring during the night.
Yesterday I had only 4 episodes of of very loose "mud "...
But today it started again at midnight , then 6 more very loose stools through the morning....tonight it resumed at 5 pm and hit every 15 -45 minutes until 8 pm .....that was 9 more for a total of 15 trips to the throne...
Could a glass of vegetable juice once a day and 2 meals of ground bison/ turkey (I froze it in meal size portions) and a baked sweet potato this week cause this gradual build up of symptoms ? I also have "false alarms" where I rush to the bathroom in alarm and nothing happens.....
Could the Pepto therapy begin to fail over time after seeming to be a miracle? Is it time for Budesonide? Or Is the problem adding the veggie juice and/or bison or both?
Thanks for any ideas to figure this out....
Sunny

Hey Sunny,
I'm so sorry you are struggling. I think the fructose in the fruit juice could have caused some problems. And like Tex says. Don't worry about not getting veggies right now, they go in the toilet anyway until you get inflammation down. If you react to beef, bison is pretty much the same thing. Hope tonight is better for you.

Hi Sunny,
I'm sorry to hear of your setback. Vanessa is right on target. Fruit and fruit juices are 2 things that we can definitely do without while we are trying to recover. The bison might be a problem, but most of us mostly get bloating, aches and pains, and an upset tummy from beef, rather than D. But of course we are all different, so that isn't chiseled in stone.
I agree with Vanessa that the fruit or veggie juice is almost surely the cause of your setback. And the bison may have fanned the flames. No treatment (including Pepto-Bismol) can overcome a defective diet for those of us who have many serious food sensitivities. The Pepto didn't stop working, the juices simply overpowered it.

Thanks Vanessa and Tex,
There were only 2 bottles of juice that had fruit juice and I drank those 5 days ago; the others are just veggie...there is also carrot juice....perhaps that is also too much sugar.
Last night was a tsunami of repeated events and is continuing this morning. Is it ok to take Immodium as well as the 9 Pepto? I'm running to the bathroom every 15 minutes for a just tablespoon of mud and am absolutely raw.
My doc is my PC and she is suggesting I move to Budesonide; I'm supposed to contact her today for an update; maybe I'll skip the contact & hope for a turnaround in a day or two...
Wondering too about stress impacting this; I am still trying to get a response back from PillPack and expect a phone call this morning....I am trying to cancel our accounts.
The alarm system here is malfunctioning and shrieking alarms come on & off again so I'm on edge. At least I have ear plugs....
Thanx for the support ....

Sure. Imodium is one of the safest medications available for treating D. There are no known drug interactions that I'm aware of.Sunny wrote:Is it ok to take Immodium as well as the 9 Pepto?
And yes, stress can (and often does) trump the best of treatment plans.
Either zinc-based ointments or coconut oil are helpful for treating the "baboon butt" symptoms that are associated with secretory D.

Hi, Sunny. I wouldn't give up on the Pepto yet. I took 6/day for 8 weeks and after a few weeks I actually had to cut back on the Pepto because I became constipated. I didn't eat much other than turkey, chicken and sweet potatoes until the D stopped. I have not had to taken any medication. I have been okay through diet alone. I've had a few blips along the way when I was accidentally glutened or ate too much of something but for the most part I have normans.

Marcia,
Thanx for reaching out...wow! Only 6 Pepto a day and then constipated in a few weeks! I can only dream! Haha...I've been trying sweet potatoes and just hoping they don't have too much fiber. It's helpful to hear from someone who has been using the Pepto with success. Thanx again,
