Small traces -What about me/us?

Post by Lilja »

Hi,

I’m sure you are not that into our national sport, cross country skiing. But this last week our best female competitor, Therese Johaug, world champion several times, was found guilty of having used a lip balm that contained steroids to treat her sunburned lips . She used the product after training in the hights, in the Italian Alps for three days. She didn't know that this is classified as "doping". This story is not my main concern, rules are rules.

But, what surprised me is that WADA could detect the steroid both in her blood and in her urine, and this was just a steroid lip balm used for three days! That made me think of all the supplements I take, and how easily they apparently are absorbed. I mean… a lip balm with steroids shows up that easily in all tests, what about all the supplements I take every day? I wasn’t aware of the fact that everything is so easily absorbed (and detected).

So, I have decided that I stop all my supplements for now.

First, I will take a three weeks’ break from every supplement. I mean, these are concentrated nutrients that I have been filling my body with for the last 20-30 years, and after the onset of my CC I may have increased some of them. So, I will go for an experiment: Stay away from all supplements for three weeks and let my body rest. I’m in remission, so I hope this will not put my digestion at a risk.

Did you know how fast and easily everything you ingest and put on your body is absorbed, and how easily it may be traced? My heart goes out to Therese Johaug, because her experience taught me something new. She is a tough girl who will raise and recover from this blow.

Lilja,
This is interesting...I've been slowly reducing the supplements I've been taking also....I've been wondering if I was helping or harming my body....some I looked up to remember why I was even taking them! Most were recommended by a Naturopath 3 years ago. It I'll be interesting to see what we experience.

Hi Lilja,

Thanks for posting. Therese is a beautiful girl and quite an athlete. This really makes one think about lipsticks etc.
