Magnesium question.....thank you

Post by Suzy »

Hello. I'm working on getting my magnesium up via supplements, transdermal, and even IV (with added calcium, C and B's to replace the damage done by acid blockers). It's now at 5.3. My vitamin D is 56.8.

I've been told that supplementing with vitamin D kills liver retinol needed for ceruloplasmin and calcium blocks the absorption of magnesium and iron so both vitamin D and calcium supplementation should be stopped. Does anyone know?

Also, as I've been hydrating more, I notice more foot/leg/hand cramps at night. Any advice? Perhaps add more potassium (not sure which source to use for that)?

Finally, does anyone know of a gut safe vitamin C (I have a gastritis history so any vitamin c worries me, hence the iv).

Thanks so much.

mmmm
my thoughts (and I am not as knowledgeable in this as Tex)
I didnt think calcium blocks the absorption of magnesium, more so 'inhibits' it ie reduces it. further calcium can not directly affect transdermal magnesium.

I have been supplementing with Vit D3 for almost 7 years (and at times in very high doses) and do not have any issues with my cerulplasmin levels ( they are tested very 9-12 months due to my Pyrrole disorder)

the foot/leg/hand cramps can be due to a couple of things - but one that comes to mind as you have increased the magnesium intakes, is that the magnesium is doing its work! toxins are being taken from joints and tissue and being cleared. and the body is responding to there being available magnesium in your body (think of dry lake and then lots of rain! it soaks in the long awaited water)

gut safe VIt C, food wise, sweet potato and cauliflower are great sources of Vit C. Supplement wise I will let USA locals reply with suggested products
(or you could do a search to find previous discussions)

Thank you! I'm going easy on the sweet potato due to possible sibo/gerd -- trying to eat very low carb. Thanks for your help. good to know the cramps might be a good thing!
