SO FRUSTRATED.
I just started a gluten free diet two days ago to try to see if that's causing my symptoms. And I have ALREADY blown it. Completely by accident -- someone was handing out biscuits at school and I didn't even think about the fact that it wouldn't be gluten free, since I've never done this diet before. I feel so stupid and am afraid I've set myself back, or that I'll make a mistake again. And I'm not even sure that this will really help my symptoms. :(
Moral support would be welcome, because I'm feeling pretty dumb and defeated.

Hi,
Please don't feel that you're the only one who's ever done that. We've all been accidentally glutened at one time or another. And we become more vigilant as a result. I've been gluten free for over 14 years now, and I still occasionally have a nightmare maybe 2 or 3 times a year where I'm at a wedding reception or some other gathering and without thinking I casually pick up a sandwich or something similar loaded with gluten and chomp down on it. It immediately dawns on me that I can't do that and I almost always wake up at the point where I'm trying to get it out of my mouth without causing a big ruckus, and I'm disgusted with myself because I know that it's going to make me sick anyway. Fortunately I've never done that in real life, but I've been glutened a number of times by well-intentioned friends or relatives who simply don't understand how strict our diet standards must be.
Avoiding gluten becomes second nature after we've been at it for a while, and you will slowly become a pro. Good luck with your recovery.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

there is no failure in the MC management plan - only learnings...
making these changes are huge and it takes time, I would say 3-6 months to get into the flow of it being 'the new normal'
my motto for years has been, progress not perfection...
dont be too hard on yourself, breathe deeply, sigh and put the event behind you.
hope the next week is much better

I make this mistake frequently. There are times when I am flare and pain free and I simply forget; or, I didn't plan well and I'm neither at home nor am I near a grocery store and in the mouth and down the throat goes the gluten. Twenty-four hours later my body reminds me that this disease is real.
We are all human. Be kind to yourself and remember that you slipped and fell. You can get back up, dust yourself off, and continue down the path of healing.
Wishing you all the best!

Dear Gabes Thank you so much for helping me. I am so frustrated. I can hear my stomach gurgling and I know I am in trouble. Usually one entrecort helps right away. For a few weeks my stomach is good and then it gets week. I also take immodians. I am careful what Iam eating. The problem is in the morning.I am so anxious to see what my stomach is going to be like .Am I doing well with only one d and the rest of the day perfect.I am glutin free dairy free etc. Thank you for your advice I have had M.C. for five years, some really good days and then out of nowhere some bad ones .I am going to try some cannabis oils to help with the anxiety that M.C.has caused me over the last five years. How are you?

Hi there Erica
anxiety and stress can be a major trigger for some MC'ers, adjusting the morning routine to include relaxing activities and reducing anxiety is just as important as the eating plan changes we make.
long story short, for some even though they are in 'remission' there will still be minor variations to the poop day to day. Every day wont be 100% perfect. (thats where the motto progress not perfection comes in)
I am 7.5 years post diagnosis, and depending on sleep quality, if there is any stress that week, if there is multiple days where my eating and lifestyle routine is different, then my poop quality will vary.
Right now after over 10 years of multiple AI issues, I am feeling pretty good.
I have resolved most of the nutritional deficiencies, and reduced excess toxins/metals in my body. I am aged 47, my menstruation cycle is a near perfect 28 days (first time in my adult life ie 30 years), digestion is pretty good, kidneys are no longer having issues, I am off the heart and BP medication, and I am getting gradual improvements with the AI skin issue I have. I am gradually increasing my work hours, getting more physical fitness and improved mental capabilities.
Right now today as I type this, I have big pot of 'gabe stew' simmering on the stove; home made bone broth, ground meats, safe veges etc. Enough for 2 weeks.

Re: Scared of New Zealand
Craig and me are going to New Zealand this December. We will be hiking a lot. I know nothing about their food and I am worried. The last trip was a disaster. Switzerland is a rich country and I was not scared. I have been there twice now, once with a friend name Ellen and the second time with my husband. I had not seen Geneva or Geneva Lake. It's beautiful. I broke my wrist in Zurich, Switzerland but I have healed and have a plate implanted.
Does anybody live near New Zealand? Will I have a problem with food? I do not want to visit Australia because my dentist told me they abuse animals and it's blazing dry hot.
