take ppi h2 blocker without causing rebound?

Post by nsaidcolitis »

unfortunately i did something stupid without knowing and this has caused me refglux for the past days or so and develop throat ulcers really bad they just wont heal now since everything is causing reflux so i may have to take a ppi i know they cause insane rebound after i stop em but i see no other way of healing it.

is there other treatment in the usa to heal an ulcer w/o ppi maybe i can apply for a visa and go there to try it because all they offer me is a ppi here and i know it helps but the rebound will bring the ulcer back its happened so many times

Hey there,

I know ingesting aloe vera may help with soothing and healing ulcers. Once I changed my magnesium supplement and increased dosage my burning stomach/esophagus symptoms also left....hope this helps.

my suggestion
- slippery elm powder (finely ground) not capsules very small amounts of powder
- the aloe as mentioned by vanessa
- Vit A (sweet potato is good source of this) chondroitin sulphate
- topical magnesium rubbed on the stomach area

H2 blockers are not PPIs, and they do not cause a rebound effect when you wean off them. In this country H2 blockers are available over-the-counter (without a prescription). H2 blockers work almost as well as PPIs, except that you have to take them every few hours instead of just 1 per day.

i tried slippery elm but my reflux is at a flare pretty much anything i eat even water causes it. I used h2 blockers once for months to heal my stomach it worked for those two months but after ib stopped them i didnt get burning stomach but a lot of reflux which i never had that, i was coughing from reflux the first time i didnt even know the coughing was from reflux.

then i used nexium one month after the coughing stooped the nexium was prescribed for gastritis my reflux was gone month after stopping zantac, so i used nexium for months after stopping nexium the reflux came back x worse coughing a lil blood some days and chest pain etc.

so clearly acid reducers cause me reflux when i stop em and i havent been back to normal since i took nexium. but i know when i take em i feel no reflux but they cause it in the long run

True, but here are no other meds that you can take that will not cause reflux when they are stopped. Have you tried large doses of vitamin D and magnesium?

nsaidcolitis I can feel your pain. I recently stopped taking Prilosec and was taking Pepsid instead since it is a H2 receptor.... It is not working for me. I have reflux after every meal and when trying to sleep. I am really thinking of taking Prilosec again. I don't know how much longer I can stand this. I did try vitamin D 5000 mg. for a week. Melatonin at bedtime. apple cider vinegar, only once, couldn't get past that horrible taste. I also have the cough from reflux.

Yes, unless you know that your vitamin D level is already high, taking 10,000 IU for up to several months is safe. But after several months at that rate, you should get your blood level checked to make sure that it's still within the normal range. If it's near the top of the normal range at that point, then you should reduce the dose, or do without any for a while.
