Why eat highly processed foods? Eat the meat (or the plants, if you prefer vegan) that the product was made from in order to get your protein. There's no way that something in a package is going to be less inflammatory than the real food it came from.

Yea, i was thinking to pack some easy digestible calories, like add to my meal.tex wrote:Why eat highly processed foods? Hey David,
While I was recovering, I could not tolerate any vitamin or protein shakes. I recently tested this again with a protein shake with low amount of ingredients so I could save some time not cooking and possibly use them for travel this summer. That experiment did not go well for me! Lessened learned.....back to the ol' crockpot.

After losing 10 pounds when I first started the diet, which I probably needed to lose, I have kept my weight stable by eating protein, a few well cooked veggies, sweet potatoes, some white rice, bananas not too ripe (more toward the green as they have less fiber), bone broth, applesauce, almond and coconut milk, a little almond or cashew butter and potato chips. I love the crunch and salt of the chips. I buy a brand that is certified gluten free, cooked in avacado oil and with some sea salt, not overdone on the salt. Those are the only ingredients. Do I eat some everyday? Yes! You can also get them cooked in olive oil, I just prefer the avacado.

Hi Daivd,
I'm going on 2 years healing now...and I still can't get protein powders to agree with my now MC status in life. Not sure if I will ever be able to digest those protein powders...
Honestly if you stick to the low inflammation bland diet and eat lots of protein you will heal nicely and you will gain some weight again. If you need on the go type protein choose a dried jerky meat, or a protein bar such as Lara, or Zing if you can find or order it.
Less is more while healing

did you use maybe pea protein, or rice protein, alone?Vanessa wrote:Hey David,

Hi David,
If all those foods are agreeing with you, the only thing I might upgrade is my breakfast and add Skipjack tuna soy free, or a pork chop etc....I'd add a better helping of protein in that meal of the day when you haven't already eaten 3 eggs
Other than that I think its a waiting game...it took my body a while to acclimate to the new diet and get adequate Vit D and Magnesium levels and once that happened I have maintained my weight and may have gained a pound or two. But it didn't happen until my body decided it was going to happen.
Also, I didn't once calculate how much I was eating, so if you are keeping within a certain caloric range I'd stop that immediately. Eat when you are hungry, don't eat when you are not and don't worry how much you are eating unless it makes you uncomfortable There's plenty of time to fine tune the diet when you feel you have reached a good weight.

there are multiple factors to look at - not just intake.
a) how many calories are you burning per day (activity wise etc)
b) ongoing stress will burn energy (that being mental stress, emotional stress, physical stress)
c) nutrient imbalances like Vit D3 and magnesium will impact nutrient absorption / metabolism in the body
d) the banana / avocado intake could be increasing histamine levels and this will also impact 'balance'
I personally use a rice protein powder (Australian manufacturer) only for meals on the run when I am out all day, mostly during the aussie summer when I don't want to have 3 cooked meals per day. with the cooler weather now and quiet routine I have not had any in the past 2 weeks.
agree with Erica, listen to your body, eat when you are hungry. Be relaxed and look forward to the meal.
you are only 5 months into your MC healing journey... be at peace that you are on the right path and things take time.
a key part of the mental and emotion aspects is finding the delicate balance of 'being proactive' but not 'overthinking/stressing' about our meals, weight, if we are healing etc..

David,
The reason why you can't gain weight is because you do not eat enough. 2,000 calories is a maintenance level diet. When I was your age I ate twice as much, sometimes more. And I was probably smaller than you. I weighed about 64–65 kilos. Of course a lot of that was what we call "junk food" today (high-calorie food such as cookies, cakes, and candy), but I burned it all anyway If your job is physically demanding, you can easily burn that many calories every day. You don't need more types of food to gain weight, you just need to eat more of everything you like to eat. Calories = weight gain.

Hey David,
The protein powder I chose had just the pea protein in it. But, like Erica, I found once I corrected my mineral and magnesium deficiency, my weight went up pretty quickly after that. Now, I actually need to watch what I'm eating. I never thought I would be saying that ever! Adding some more meat and giving your body enough time to heal sounds like a good plan like the others have said. It took me 3 years to mostly heal my gut and to just beat this topic into the ground some more, my healing accelerated once I had the right magnesium on board.......

similar to Vanessa's reply above - for me I was overweight prior to MC Dx and during the years of multiple AI issues etc. In the past 6 months with - less inflammation, balanced nutrients etc I am losing weight - it is slow and gradual but both my doctor and I are happy with this.
balancing nutrients, healing leaky gut and clearing toxins has been a 3 year journey for me.

I don't like protein powders with a lot of ingredients. The more ingredients, the worse the food makes me feel.
I *HAVE* used raw shelled hempseeds in my smoothies, while recovering, and I continue to use them. They did not cause a reaction. I find the taste neutral and nutty. 3 tablespoons have 10 grams of protein, and 10 grams of omega 3+6

If you are in active MC the best thing that worked for me is eating meat at every meal, but smoothies were a nice sometimes treat.
Best wishes.
