This website has different ways someone can take mesalazine. I have LC and am thinking I need to go back on a med.

As far as I know, Asacol still contain lactose. Even the new HD (or whatever they call it) version that's simply a more concentrated formulation. The difference in all the other brands/types is simply in the way they are coated or encapsulated to delay activation. I've always like the way that Pentasa is designed, but they all work similarly. The newest versions are Lialda, and Apriso, so these are probably the brands being promoted by the drug reps, and they're probably easier to use (more concentrated).
Budesonide or Uceris (which is also a form of budesonide that eliminates any systemic effects that so the dose does not have to be tapered when ending a treatment) works faster and more effectively than mesalamine for most patients.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Perhaps you can help me understand what might be happening with my LC. I have been feeling fine, no longer having multiple loose stools daily, but once or twice a month I have watery diarrhea. This began a year ago, but I had not had watery diarrhea since just before my diagnosis in 2007.
So, generally I feel great most of the time, but am afraid to leave the house because of the D. I have not been on meds since I went off Asacol in early 2015.
Thanks for any feedback you might have for me.
