Thyroid Medication . . .

Post by TXBrenda »

The lady that prepares the compound medications for my local pharmacy informed me this afternoon that she is having trouble obtaining the medicine to compound my thyroid medication. It is on back order from every company she has at her disposal. Has anyone else experienced this? She has enough to make one more month's prescription for me. The thyroid medication they sell that is available without a prescription (Eco Thyroid) is also on back order.

I really don't want to take Armour but may have to, lol. I see my doctor next month that prescribes this so the predicament is timely.

Are you talking about a natural dessicated thyroid product or a synthetic?

I use Armour.

It is natural. It is a hefty dose. The label says 270 mg but not sure how many grains of T3 and T4 are in it. I will ask tomorrow.

My last labs are as follows:

April 2016
TSH - 0.997 uIU/mL

June 2016
total T3 163 ng/dL
free T4 1.0 ng/dL
TSH 0.140 uIU/mL

I have lost 65 lbs since I had weight loss surgery in October 2016.

I was just wondering what was in short supply. This might presage a shortage of all naturally dessicated thyroid products. The pharmaceutical industry has been trying to do that ever since the TSH test was first developed decades ago.

Did you have problems with Armour?

I took a generic levothyroxine, a generic Liothyronine, tried Tirosint, and finally found a doctor who allowed me to try Armour. It took me four very long years but I wouldn't want anything else. All my issues aren't resolved but it's difficult to figure it all out- MC, hypothyroidism, fibromyalgia, lymes, and now possibly SIBO.

Just curious.......
