Medical Marijuana

I was diagnosed a few years ago and have experienced the same denial and acceptance roller coaster that it appears most have travelled on. I have been dairy free and pretty much egg free for a couple of years and now will (kicking and screaming) go gluten free. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with medical marijuana to help tame the symptoms and the inflammation? It is touted to help with so many types of inflammation.

Hi Jackie,
Welcome to the forum. A few people have tried it or are trying it. Maybe they will see your post and respond, but they don't normally post very often. I suspect that the problem with marijuana for MC is that while it may make feeling some of the symptoms less noticeable, it may not actually suppress all types of the inflammation that causes MC. Therefore, it may be helpful for pain, but not necessarily for controlling all of the inflammation that causes/perpetuates the disease. That said, it may control some of the inflammation.

Is there any connection with marijuana blocking histamines?
Like many others, I'm not interested in going for the "high". A few people that know I have MC have asked me if I have thought about using it.
Thank-you!

I would encourage anyone who has legal access to marijuana, to give it a try. I have joined several medical marijuana online groups, as well as an IBD group where some are using it, and many with IBD's are getting symptom relief from marijuana. There are many forms and strains available today, and you can see what works best for you, trying different amounts and/or types. I recently tried it, and it lessened my D almost immediately. Unfortunately, I had what I think is an allergic reaction, and am very upset that not only I can't use it for this, but won't be able to use it for anything, as it has many good medical uses. The first time, I smoked (using a vape as it is much easier on the lungs, and greatly reduces carcinogens) starting at 2 hits a night, and that didn't seem to do much. I added 2 more during the day, and it worked very well, to reduce the D back to a manageable level of first thing in the morning. After about a week however, I got severe, very frequent urgent watery D, not really like what I usually get. It lasted for 2 days. As I thought I might have food poisoning, I had a stool test, and tested negative for various bacteria, parasites, and C Diff. I stopped using it as soon as this started, and thought I might be having a reaction to the marijuana, but really hoped not. A week later, I tried again, this time using an oral tincture of 6mg CBD/3 mg THC. I used 1 dropperful, which is a very small amount of THC, and had reduced D on day 2, and even better on day 3. Was very encouraged that such a small amount could make a difference, but knew I would prob need more over time, as I got used to it. On day 4, I had the same reaction as before with this rushing D, though luckily it only lasted one day this time. Stopped using it, and was pretty convinced this time that I was allergic. Several days later, I made a smoothie with hemp seeds. I have been eating them with no issue for several years, however this time I got the same reaction with rushing D, on and off for 3 days. Again, different than my usual D. As hemp is the same plant, I was pretty sure that I had developed an allergy to the plant-not just THC as I thought might be the issue, as hemp has no THC. Really bummed that I can't use this again, especially since I felt improvement right away. I don't think what has happened to me is very common, so would encourage others to give it a try if you have legal access.
I tried marijuana in the 1970's

This was when marijuana was much weaker. Today it's stronger, and I would not touch it with a 10 foot pole. I tried it for Dystonia and I became a Zombie and sick. I never liked putting anything into my lungs. Never smoked except for that junk a couple of times. Disaster! Sorry, I don't think Marijuana is safe.

I smoke. Not sure if it helps with the inflammation. Sometimes it makes it a little more difficult to stay on a food plan :P
