Hi everyone. I am so happy to have found this site! I was recently diagnosed with lymphocytic colitis, but from what I've read here so far, I consider myself lucky that my symptoms (so far, at least) don't seem to be nearly as bad as what many of you are dealing with! I am coming up on 60 years old, and for the past 10 years or so, it seems like every time I turned around, I found myself unable to tolerate another type of food. The docs initially just wrote it off as IBS-D but finally I think I have a correct diagnosis with the lymphocytic colitis. My list of problem foods now includes dairy, chocolate, almonds, sugar, and probably gluten and fluoride. I am still experimenting and trying to figure this all out. It is very comforting to know that I have found others who can understand this issue and whom I can turn to with questions! Good luck to us all!! ~Louise
Hi Louise,
Welcome to our Internet family. You're right, you have to actually have this disease to understand it. Most medical professionals underrate it because it's not a fatal diagnosis, although dehydration and some of the other complications associated with the disease can be fatal. But when it's really active, MC can almost completely take control of your schedule, which means that it can take control of your life. It can effectively lock you in the bathroom, and it's tough to lead a very satisfying life when you can't get out of the bathroom. Hopefully, your symptoms will never get that bad because by watching your diet and being proactive, you're in control.
Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
