Pressure cooker for bone broth

Post by Alohagirl »

Aloha - getting a pressure cooker - Instant Pot - for the holidays. I saw one person said they use a pressure cooker. I sure would like to cook meat in 1 hour. Any input on if this would impact the quality of the bone broth? Thanks in advance & happy holidays!

Hi Alohagirl, I would highly recommend getting an Instant Pot. They are so much easier than a traditional pressure cooker and you can make nice broths in an hour. I usually pressure my chicken or beef for 30 minutes, remove the meat and then pressure the bones again for about 90 minutes. It's not necessary to do it that long but I get a great, gelatinous broth. Deb

I have an Instant Pot that I only used once and I want to make bone broth in it. Thanks, Deb! I'm a little afraid to use it, but I know that it's fairly easy to use.

Marcia, it can feel a bit intimidating at first.
With me it was because I always had a bit of a fear of pressure cookers. The Instant Pot has a relatively easy learning curve and I use mine on a nearly daily basis. It's really just set it and forget it. Just read the instructions thoroughly and start with the water test. Deb

I like my slowcooker for making perfect bone broth. It's not quick, but that is not necessary because I take bone broth daily. It works on electricity and there is no risk for fire or dry cooking. You just turn the electricity on and don't have to look after it for one or two days.

Deb, I will start with the water test and go from there. I have a fear of pressure cookers, too but I know they've come a long way since the pressure cookers of my youth!

I just ordered the instant pot, primarily to make bone broth. Could anyone suggest the best source for the bones? I’m brand new to this forum, so please excuse my basic question.
Thank you,
Kathryn

Hi, Kathryn. I make bone broth with turkey bones after I roast a turkey. I'm sure others will reply, some order the bones online. I don't eat chicken so I can't use chicken bones to make mine.
