Product Report — Hyland's Leg Cramps PM

Post by tex »

This product was recommended to me by my pharmacist and it works amazingly well. I have a problem taking as much magnesium as I need. If I take more than about 300 mg, I risk overworking my kidneys and as their function becomes compromised (my EGFR goes down), I may develop a heart arrhythmia. Consequently, I often have leg cramps during the night.

I've been using this product at bedtime (1 tablet under the tongue) for several nights. It seems to work fine that way. Last night I forgot to take a tablet when I went to bed. I woke up about 4:30 with a leg cramp. I put one of the tablets under my tongue and in less than about 15 or 20 seconds it had dissolved and was gone. In about another 15 seconds the leg cramp started to relax, and within a few seconds it was completely gone. That's the fastest cramp relief I've ever seen.

This product contains a long list of homeopathic ingredients, but so far I haven't detected any adverse side effects. The label lists:
Active Ingredients | Purposes:

Calcarea Carbonica 12X HPUS: cramps in legs, calves, feet and toes
Causticum 12X HPUS: nocturnal sleeplessness
Chamomilla 6X HPUS: leg cramps and pain at night
Cinchona Officinalis 3X HPUS: disturbed sleep, pain in limbs at night
Cuprum Metallicum 12X HPUS: cramps of limbs, charley horse cramps
Lycopodium 12X HPUS: disturbed, restless sleep; cramps and contraction of limbs
Magnesia Phosphorica 6X HPUS: wakeful and sleeplessness, cramps in legs
Rhus Toxicodendron 6X HPUS: charley horse cramps in thighs and calves at night
Silicea 12X HPUS: not being able to sleep again after waking
Sulphur 6X HPUS: sleeplessness, frequent waking during night

Inactive Ingredient: Lactose NF
The Lactose NF concerned me, so I looked it up. their website says:
What does lactose NF mean?

All of our products contain Lactose N.F. The "N.F." stands for National Formulary, indicating pharmaceutical grade lactose, which is milk sugar from cow's milk completely purified of milk proteins.
So theoretically at least, it's safe, at least it should be safe for most people in remission.

Thank you, Tex. I occasionally wake up with leg cramps. I'll keep this by my bedside. Merry Christmas!
