Infliximab (Remicade)

Dear All,
I am looking for information about the drug Infliximab (Remicade). My doctor at the university hospital wants me to start intravenous administration of this drug, after several periods of budesonide (for about 3 years); every time I quit the budesonide, the mc returns with a vengeance (!), so it is no longer safe for me to take the budesonide (risks of diabetes, osteoporosis etc.).
Infliximab is given to patients with various types of inflammatory diseases: rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, etc.
In the meantime I am on a low fiber and low fat diet for about 7 years.
Thanks!
Greetings from Belgium

Hi GG,

According to published medical research, Remicade is claimed to work for MC. Unfortunately though, as far as I am aware, none of our members who have tried it have had any luck with using it to treat MC. In fact, each time they received the infusion, their symptoms became much worse for several days and then got better. But their diarrhea never stopped.

The most reliable way to control the symptoms of MC (or any other IBD) is to follow a gluten-free (and in most cases a casein-free) diet.

Welcome GG,

Welcome to the forum!

Have you done diet modification? Almost all of us need to go GF and DF in order to go into remission.

In order to get off of budesonide and not reflare we must be GF and DF when we taper off of our last budesonide otherwise we will reflare.

Consider another stint on budesonide coupled with diet modifications.

Or, many folks on the board go into remission simply with diet modifications (no drugs.)

Remicade has pretty strong side effects....i.e. risk of cancer....that budesonide does not have.

Have you tried Uceris or cholysterimine or the pepto bismol treatment?

Following a GF and DF diet is not that difficult and worth it to be in remission.
