Hi friends, this is my first time posting on this wonderful site. I am a Type 1 Diabetic, Microscopic Colitis, and had Boop Pneumonia. Diagnosed at age 40 with Type 1 Diabetes. I think I was born with Microscopic Colitis. Flares would appear with bloating, fatigue...but no diarrhea. I was diagnosed with BOOP Pneumonia in 2013. This is inflammation of the lungs. On X-Ray, your lungs are white, filled with inflammation. It's not contagious. In many cases it's fatal and Lung Specialists don't understand the disease or what causes it. They load you up on steroids. Not good for a diabetic.
When I look back at my life, I see a PATTERN! Everything is Auto-Immune and Inflammation. In Austin, TX, the GI Specialist diagnosed my diarrhea and fatigue as Pancreatic Enzyme Deficiency without doing a 72 hour fecal exam. I thought okay, since my father was a Type 1 diabetic and suffered from Pancreatic Enzyme Deficiency. I was put on enzymes but the diarrhea, bloating and fatigue came back two years later. I went to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, and the GI Specialist did a biopsy of my colon. I was diagnosed with Microscopic Colitis. The doctor wanted to put me on steroids or Pepto Bismol. I opted for the Pepto and he gave no time limit when to stop it. I developed balance problems and started falling down. Plus my diarrhea, fatigue, brain fog, bloating and gas returned. I quickly discontinued Pepto.
Discouraged, diarrhea, bloat, fatigue, brain fog and nausea made me frantic. I was sick and nauseated and went out to eat fish, green beans and a small amount of Baked Alaska, and I felt great afterwards. All my symptoms disappeared. I felt GREAT! I then realized this colitis is related to food intolerance. I started hunting for answers and found WAYNE PERSKY. I am reading his book on Microscopic Colitis with the Tree Cover. It's fantastic.
I would like to know if anyone else on here has Type 1 diabetes and MC. Information of any sort would surely help me. My husband had to call EMS last night because my blood sugar dropped and I was unresponsive. This is serious stuff and deadly.
Thanks, Dorothy Williams

Welcome Dorothy
sympathies that you had to find us and you are struggling
Yes we have a few members that have both Type 1 and MC - and others like me with multiple auto immune issues.
long story short -
things like Vit D3, magnesium etc are key nutrients to help manage these health issues.
please spend some time reading in our 'guidelines to recovery' area

another area of the forum that will assist is reading posts in the member success stories area - so you can see what others have done, and how long good remission can take.

hope this helps
happy healing

Hello Dorothy,
Welcome to the group. Gabes cited a good article. I agree with Dr. Sircus — I believe he's on target with his information about the role that magnesium plays in insulin resistance (magnesium deficiency causes insulin resistance). He also has several other detailed blogs about the importance of magnesium in human health.
MC depletes magnesium (and vitamin D). Consequently, (as Gabes pointed out), unless we take supplements, virtually all of us are magnesium and vitamin D deficient. Vitamin D and magnesium work together (synergistically) to activate many vital chemical processes in the body, so a deficiency of one or both will eventually lead to additional autoimmune diseases. We have to have adequate amounts of both in order to heal properly.
Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks Y'all!
I've been taking several mgs of vitamin D3 and magnesium. This is great news about the doctor's post, but I am worn out with buying all the products for diabetes, MC, and vitamins. My kitchen is filled to the brim with vitamins but I have my vitamin D3 and magnesium. I take several pills a day. I read where you stated how much of these two vitamins to take, but lost the post. Can you restate the amount? I may have to look into the doctor's advice. I'm just tired of dealing with these autoimmune diseases. Thanks for everything, y'all!
Hi Dorothy,
I take about 300 mg of magnesium glycinate and 3,000 IU of vitamin D per day. The magnesium is divided up between meals (100 mg per meal) to facilitate absorption and prevent any short-term overdoses.
