Bone Broth Protein Powder

Post by Cran3 »

Hey everyone,

I'm looking into Ancient Nutrition Bone Broth Protein Powder, and I'm wondering if anyone here has used it? I'm being cautious and researching a lot because some of these companies seem shady to me.

I like to use protein powder after I am done my workout, but it's not easy to find one that works for me. I originally used Sunwarrior, but they use pea protein, and I'm thinking that peas are bothering me in a lot of dairy-free protein powders out there.

But anyway, I figured since it's bone broth AND protein, it would be nice to add to my daily regimen after a workout. I'll throw in a picture of what it looks like. Let me know your thoughts?

Thank you!

I have found Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides to be an amazing protein powder source. I too cannot use any of the other protein sources such as pea or whey, and while this is not marketed as a protein powder, that is indeed what it is. It only contains grass-fed pasture-raised cow hides And packs 18g of protein per serving. It has NO flavour or smell, and dissolves easily in water.

Good question!

Jordan Rubin is the cofounder of Ancient Nutrition. We've had discussions about him before if you search the forum.
He recently sold his Garden of Life Supplement Company.

After the sale of his Garden of Life Supplement Company he met a chiropractor by the name of Dr. Axe at a trade show. Dr. Axe and Jordan Rubin founded Ancient Nutrition. Since he sold his Garden of Life company for millions I suspect he has a pretty solid non compete contract. I suspect he is skirting his non compete contract by selling protein powders. Dr. Axe is the "face" of Ancient Nutrition on the web.

I have used Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate in the green can in the past. I think it is fairly similar to the Vital Proteins product mentioned above. The product in the green can readily dissolves. NOTE THIS IS NOT A "COMPLETE" PROTEIN. A piece of chicken or fish are going to be better for you, i.e. "complete."

It is difficult to tell but it looks like the Ancient Nutrition powder is based upon gelatin collagen with some other ingredients thrown in. Serving size is interesting: Ancient Nutrition 1 serving size of 23 grams gives you 20 grams protein nutrition. Great Lakes serving size of 12 grams gives you 11 grams of protein. So 24 grams of Great Lakes would get you 22 grams of protein.

Protein you get is about the same but I think Ancient Nutrition canvassed the industry before they started and made their
serving size 23 grams to appear that you get more protein--i.e. 20 grams and they have that splashed on the front of the
can.

MCers will generally tolerate the Vital Protein product and the Great Lakes product due to less additives. The Ancient Nutrition
is questionable due to additives.

Jordin Rubin has somewhat of a shady reputation and has been talked about on our forum in the past.

my 20cents worth

- nothing beats the real thing of having animal protein in its more natural state as broth and meat etc.
- using these powders as a back up / or means of having a safe high protein meal when out for the day or travelling is great but I would not recommend using them as a protein replacement for every meal.
- for some members here, these products contain additional ingredients (ie like this one have tumeric) that would be troublesome if you are in early stages of healing. Or may contain soy based items in the preparation and storage process so always double check the inactive ingredients.

I've yet to be impressed with any protein powders.....so far the good old fashioned meat on my plate has worked 100%, I also didn't worry about any 'extra' additives at that point...

Protein can be found in many things that don't contain very many ingredients...that should be what is chosen for those that are healing.

Pack a porkchop with you to eat after your work out  and I am serious about this suggestion! Less is more
