Update and magnesium question

Post by AliciaM »

Update: My stomach symptoms have improved tremendously and having mostly normal BM. Still on a limited diet, but have tried a few new foods in small amounts. When I’m hormonal is when my stomach is the most sensitive. I’m still dealing with fatigue though.

Before MC triggered 4 months ago, I never took naps unless extremely sleep deprived the night before. Now I take a nap every single afternoon. If I don’t I’m drained. Today I napped over an hour. I’m getting 8+ hours of sleep most nights. I would like to start taking magnesium. Sometimes I take Epsom Salt baths, but those have worked as a laxative on me before so I’m hesitant. Maybe a smaller dose would be better. What kind of magnesium works best for you? Where do you buy your magnesium?

Just feeling tired of the battle today.

Hi Alicia,

Most of us use Doctor's Best brand of magnesium glycinate. It seems to be the least likely type to cause diarrhea. But be careful — start slowly if you have had trouble with it before. Some types of magnesium (such as magnesium oxide) are mostly useful as a laxative because we can only absorb about 3 % or it. The rest stays in the intestines to cause diarrhea. So naturally this is the form you see in all the cheap multivitamins, because it is very inexpensive when compared with the types that are more easily absorbed and are not as likely to cause diarrhea. Fatigue is a symptom of MC, but it is also a symptom of magnesium deficiency.

With hormones triggering issues, things like magnesium and B6 are important.

Are you taking active B's ?? (Active forms of B6, B9, B12)
These are important for multiple reasons.... methylation, energy, hormones, balancing histamine inflammation etc.

One thing to keep in mind, magnesium is key for clearing toxins, so a D type reaction can be an indicator that it is working. Maybe try doing smaller amounts of Epsom salts in the foot bath, good luck with the oral mag, start low dose, spread it through the day.

Tex,
Thank you for the helpful explanation. I generally stay away from cheap vitamins, and will definitely check out Doctors Best. Thanks!

Gabes,
No I’m not taking any b supplements. Do you have any suggestions for high quality brands without extra fillers? I’m doing Epsom salt baths again but keeping the amount limited to be safe. Thank you for any suggestions!

Where do we obtain Doctor's Best Magnesium.

Post by dolson »

We have an old and wonderful health food store in Savannah. Right in the historical district. Do health food stores carry Magnesium Glycinate? This place carries everything or is it order on the internet only? I'm old-fashioned and like to touch things and read before buying! I have to buy this. Thanks

I would think that they surely would have magnesium glycinate. You might have to ask for it if you don't see it on the shelves. They might or might not have Doctor's Best Brand.

Most health food shops will have magnesium glycinate, just double check the inactive ingredients for hidden gluten, soy, lactose.
