Hi,
I'm curious what others have experienced with related or co-occuring autoimmune issues, along with the MC diagnosis.
I have AI in both sides of my extended family and have dealt with Raynaud's flares in extremities since high school. They are worse now that I am having trouble gaining weight and am at an all-time low in my previous 20 years.
(Mid-way through slow Entocort taper and having no symptoms on a very limited diet-- energy good.)
At my recent f/u EGD appointment, I was advised to see a Rheumatologist since my physician would prefer a work-up for Scleroderma, etc. Does anyone have experience or a history exploring this and would feel comfortable sharing?
(He is thinking the higher esophagitis I continue to have is not necessarily related to reflux but possibly a connective tissue disorder).
There are many references to cross diagnoses with Scleroderma and CC... both collagen deposit-related.
Thanks so much in advance!

Hi Jacqueline,
In general, we are at a much higher than normal risk of developing additional autoimmune issues. But if we change our diet so as to control our MC symptoms, the risk will go down to no worse than someone in the general population. In other words, the key to preventing the development of additional autoimmune diseases is to stop the intestinal inflammation and prevent it from recurring.
Have you seen this? It's a four page poll we did over twelve years ago.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
