URINARY TRACT INFECTION
Hello all,
I believe I have a urinary tract infection and will be going to the doc on Monday. I'm very concerned about having to take antibiotics and how this will affect my gut. I am still struggling greatly with my MC even though I am on a strict diet, etc. I am still having multiple BM's throughout the day, with cramping and incontinence issues. Sometimes I think it has nothing to do with my diet, because I'm eating so bland - and often, I will go a week or two sticking to the same exact diet, and I'll have good days and horrendous days. There seems to be no rhyme of reason to it - especially if I'm eating the same foods and getting different reactions on different days. My stress level is low at the moment, so I can't even blame it on that. I've had the MC for over a year now. My doc recently put me on Lexapro believing that this is all stress related, but it has not helped.
I may have no choice but to take the antibiotics to clear the infection - can anyone advise on which may be safe at this point - if any?

D manoose works well.
This works well at the first sign of UTI.
It also works well for prevention.
I prefer the powder mix with water over the capsules.
That said, you may still need antibiotic if the UTI has gone on for awhile.

Hi, Barbie Ann. I had a UTI about two years ago and I took Bactrim. It didn't affect my LC. I took a probiotic two hours after every dose to help with stomach issues. Since then I take D Mannose every day as a preventive.

Hi Barbie Ann,
I obviously don't know your medical history but if you're otherwise healthy and don't have diabetes or something like that you could always try to treat UTIs at home. I have several times and been OK because I hate the way antibiotics affect my body. They give me headaches, make me super fatigued, dizzy, and cause flare ups occasionally.
What has worked for me:
-Drinking LOTS of water. And drink in large amounts, like down a whole glass at a time. Just make sure you're eating a balanced diet and getting some electrolytes because doing this too often can actually flush your system of nutrients and electrolytes too quickly. But it will flush out bacteria and make you feel better.
-Wear loose cotton underwear and loose shorts. Bacteria loves synthetic fabrics that retain moisture and are easy to hide in. Maybe change out your underwear a few times a day while you are having symptoms.
-Clean your urethra area with baby wipes and pat dry with toilet paper.
-Pee often. Don't hold it for a second as this allows bacteria to grow. Even if all you can get is a few drops, pee it out!
-Take Advil to reduce inflammation and pain. They make over the counter meds for this as well, Pyridium I think.
However if you start developing a higher fever, your symptoms don't improve in a few days, or if you start having kidney pains you definitely need antibiotics and shouldn't hesitate to take them.

urinary tract infections and incontinence underwear -
Thank you all for your responses!
I will definitely try the home remedy first. I really don't want to take the antibiotics. I am wondering if this has caused the problem - I have been wearing the Always incontinence underwear because I have been having incontinence issues and do not want an "accident" at work. Wearing these make me feel more secure - but I noticed that this was when the trouble started. Just a few weeks into wearing them I got this infection. I never had an accident in them, but because I'm in them all day long, it probably is not good.
I'm worried about the antibiotics making my stomach worse, which I can't afford to do at this point.
I don't drink much water, so I am going to start today and drink as much as I can. Thank you for all the tips!
