Constipation or what?

Post by Gulfside »

Hello, all! I would like your experts' opinions:
What has been your experience with constipation (strange, I know)? What have you found helpful? What has your doctor said about it?

Here's the deal: Was dx'd last September w/LC and placed on Uceris a few months later. Worked like a charm and I stopped late the drug late May. No gluten, little dairy, low fiber worked fine. In the last two or three weeks I've developed "Bristol #1" pebble poop complete with straining and skipping a day or two -- misery! So I gradually ramped up my intake of prunes (uh huh) to about 3 a day over the past week. Worked great until today when BOOM! Just exploded with D again.

I see my GI doc next week. Appreciate the brain trust's input on this!

Stay well.

When I travel I always become constipated. I have had success with magnesium oxide and if need be, Senokot, a natural laxative and Colace, a stool softener. They don't work right away so have patience. My GI doc recommended Miralax, in one dose packets but I haven't used it yet. What I do know and learned the hard way, was not to start loading up on fiber. I did that once and when I returned home, I had horrible cramping, very painful. So, stick to your diet and keep the fiber low.

Here are my thoughts:

Dairy is constipating for many people, Constipation is often a symptom of chronic magnesium deficiency. MC causes magnesium deficiency. Corticosteroids cause magnesium deficiency. If you're not taking a magnesium supplement, you might be deficient.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

better options to avoid constipation

- increase water intake
- increase safe oils like coconut oil
- increase intake of fatty cuts of meat

and definately MAGNESIUM!!!
