So My Hubby Had His Kidney Surgery

Post by grannykathy »

We got that behind us. Surgery was Monday. It went well. spend 2 nights in hospital. He's doing ok. Of course has pain but he says only when he moves laughs or breathes. :) Biggest problem is constipation. He hates that because he has always been so regular. Trying to avoid pain pills for that reason but has to take once in a while. Dr. said don't take stimulant laxative because of surgery so doing stool softeners and Miralax but no luck yet. Any advice there? The stress was hard on me and didn't sleep the 2 nights we were there. Softened my stools some but no D. Stomach just been sour feeling for several days. Anyway we will get the biopsy results on the 23rd. We know it was cancer but should have an idea whether it is likely that any cancer cells might have escaped from the tumor. Thanks for any good thoughts and prayers.

Prayers for husband to heal quickly and your stress level to go down. When I have had constipation due to pain medication, I was told to take stool softeners. They told me to take up to a day's dose all at once if needed, but they didn't tell me to take Miralax with it. Drinking warm liquid helped also.

Take care

Try taking Milk of Magnesia to help with the constipation. We used that when my daughter had surgery and got backed up. Stool softener didnt quite do it. Narcotics and pain killers can cause constipation.

Hope you are both feeling better soon.
