My go to experts.
I was wondering about Turmeric and Boswellia for inflamation of joints and arthritis.I have read various articles and some State positive results. Like many of you I’m very reluctant to try anything new. I’m doing well using a disciplined approach to my diet. It has been 10 years and the last four have been good.I would appreciate your input.

Hi Zoey
My impression is that natural products such as that "might" help, but it's just not effective enough to be practical for many of us. About 10 years ago, one of our members (who no longer posts) did some extensive testing with Boswellia seratta. He called himself RUBYREDDOG. Here's a link to a thread about his trial:
Boswellia Trial for MC
But he was trying to treat MC. If you are only trying to treat arthritis, you might have much better luck. Here's my two cents worth:
I have a hunch that gluten cross-contamination (probably on a low level, if arthritis is your only symptom) is somehow creeping into your diet. Been there, done that. In my case, lower back pain was my main symptom when my diet became cross-contaminated. As I recall, published research shows that something like 70–80 % of celiacs who complain of lingering symptoms (and believe that they are following a GF diet), can be shown to be eating a diet that is contaminated by gluten.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I recently had stem cell therapy on my knee and the doctor recommended "Turmeric" as well as a few other supplements to help in reducing inflammation/aiding in the healing.
I knew one of the supplements I was taking wasn't agreeing with my MC and by process of elimination, I figured out that it was the turmeric.
So while I do agree that there may be some anti-inflammatory benefits of turmeric, it was a supplement that I just couldn't take.

Thank you all for your input.
Hi Zoey,
Obviously we're all different and you need to find what works for your body, but I will say that I took turmeric and boswellia for some time and had no negative side effects. I still take a high dose of turmeric (1.5g twice a day) and believe it helps.
I've stopped the Boswellia - but when I was in the worst of my MC it seemed to help with cramps/pain. I've mainly stopped for cost reasons (if I remember correctly, the correct dose of Boswellia is also pretty high)
Wishing you well!
Best,
Lisa

The inflammation in our joints will lessen as our gut heals, and if one notices pain in those areas after they have healed a long time then it could be they need to adjust their VitD and Magnesium levels again, I would get those checked before introducing any other supplement into my daily routine.
