Buckwheat?

Post by bubba »

I'm wondering if members of this forum have buckwheat in their diet and/or if you have found that you tolerate it well or not? I'm still in the healing but would like to try to add some buckwheat. I think it should be well tolerated as it is not a grain, but just thought I would like to hear opinions from folks in this group.
Thank you!!

Just interested if you tried buckwheat and what the results were.
Thanks
Linda :)

Yes, I did try buckwheat but I did not tolerate it well at all. I am currently following the Autoimmune Protocol as taught by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne, Angie Alt and Mickey Trescott and having a lot of success with it. So, Buckwheat is not allowed in the elimination phase of the diet. I have been in the elimination/maintenance phase for about 6 months now. Haven't yet tried reintroductions. Probably will stay in the maintenance phase a couple more months for more healing before experimenting with reintroductions. My microscopic colitis symptoms are in remission and have been for about two months now, but I don't feel like I am healed enough yet to try reintroducing. I do feel like this protocol of diet and lifestyle is helping me heal so much though. Nothing else was working.

Thanks for the reply.
I’m hyper sensitive and am still on the AIP diet after many years, but at least I have a few foods that I can eat!
I don’t know if I’ll try buckwheat or not.

Good luck to you Linda! I'm also hyper sensitive. You probably already know since you've been on the AIP diet that buckwheat is not AIP compliant. But, if you've been on the diet for many years then you could try introducing if you feel like that would be a good idea. Personally, I suspect that buckwheat is not a food that I'll be able to reintroduce. It's different for all of us of course.
I wish you good health!

Thanks, Cathy!

I got a kick out of this from WebMd...

“Microscopic colitis is a type of inflammation of the colon, or large intestine, that can cause watery diarrhea and cramping. It can be painful and unpleasant. But in most cases, it's much less severe than other types of inflammatory bowel disease.”

Whoever wrote that should try having MC for a few weeks. That would certainly change his/her opinion.
