Auto immune dermatitis anyone?

Post by persevere »

Has anyone else developed an auto immune rash/dermatitis? I have LC here. I had a surgical procedure in January. They didn't listen when I said I have a severe latex allergy, and taped my hands closed, arms for ivs. as well as across my face. The fact that very definite straight lines on face and hands makes me think latex and not the prep liquid they put on first.
Anyway , the face cleared of rash, but the arms and backs of hands blossomed dark red. The rash is all over, but mild. So far the dermatologist has used 4 different steroid creams. Not celiac dermatitis.
Anyone have any insight? Or al I just "lucky"?

Hi,

Yes, many of us have mast cell/histamine problems. Especially years after the onset of MC. The problem appears to be that MC depletes diamine oxidase (DAO) enxyme. DAO is what the body uses to purge left over (unused) histamine. As we become more and more DAO deficient, our histamine levels in circulation tend to rise. Local histamine increases is what causes rashes, swelling, inflammation, redness, etc. This may never be a problem for some people, but for those of us who have allergies of any type (especially contact allergies), this magnifies the effects, so that any rash or weal becomes much more serious and persistent.

I have to be very careful to avoid all foods that are high in histamine, or provoke the release of histamine. If I slip up, the itching can become maddening. Higher temperatures (including a hot shower) make it worse. In my case, it usually affects my lower legs (calves) primarily, but it will spread, if I don't watch my business.

Thanks. That's a good insight. I will try a bit of benadryl cream. Since the reflux / food sensitivities drama only settles with pepcid. no doubt there is a mast cell type thing going on with skin also.
Staying on steroid cream or starting prednisone is not what I really want to do.
All the DAO supps I found are porcine. Will look again.
Thanks.
