News about Vit D3 and cancer prevention

Post by Lucy »

Hi all,

Have any of you heard the reports coming out of UCSD at the Moores Cancer Center lately about Vit D3 intake. Apparently taking 1000 units of this has been shown in a number of research projects to decrease various cancer deaths by up to 50 percent.

This seems particularly important now as we tend to not get nearly as much sun in the colder months of the year, particularly in some of the more northerly climates.

I haven't read anything...but I did hear the same thing on a radio news report...but they weren't forthcoming with much info. I believe it might be something to keep an eye on in the future tho. LOve Oma

Found out today that recommendation for women is 800 anyway.

Got a bottle of separate Vit D capsules of 400 each as one of the forms of calcium (a tablet) I have here already has 400 included, for a total of 800.

Another capsule form of calcium I take has a good bit of Magnesium already in it, and I have some individual capsules with Zinc, so if I take one of each of these (a little less often on the Zinc), along with my fortified orange juice and vanilla rice milk, then I should be getting the old bones back in shape very shortly, especially once I figure out a way to do all this walking and exercising with wts. Hmmm. This is going to be the hard part!

Hi Luce,

I just saw a report about this in today's paper. It is impressive info, isn't it? It says that the 1000 IU of Vit. D is most protective against colon cancer. That's really good news, especially in light of the recent findings that eating lots of fiber doesn't really reduce the risk of colon cancer. Thanks for sharing.

Love,

Polly
